Jin had followed me down the 400 hall to my locker, just in case it wouldn't open again, but it seemed fine. (what a miracle!) I opened it up and grabbed my stuff for the rest of my classes. Once I locked it again, I quickly thanked Jin.
"Oh, no problem." He said, pointing towards a nearby classroom and continuing, "My class is right there anyway. See ya," he said as we walked past and into the room.
I quickly made my way past the crowded corner and towards 'town square' like V had explained, then taking a stairwell upstairs. The minute bell rang as I made my way into room 2604.
"Mrs. Rawls, where does the paint go?" A short girl asked. The teacher seemed to be busy, washing brushes at the sink. The girl turned towards me, talking quickly, "Do you know where the paint goes?"
"No, sorry," I said, "I'm new here."
"Oh! Then welcome!" She said happily, seemingly no longer worried about the paint. "Art class is so fun, you can basically draw anything. I'm Alice." She walked towards a table nearby and gestured me over, showing me her sketching notebook. She flipped through it and I looked at all the black-and-white sketches, some of them left unfinished. She seemed to skim past the middle and I saw something that I recognized.
"Oh, did you draw someone?" I asked. I didn't know if she wanted to flip back, since her face seemed to say "let's not talk about that". She flipped back slowly, and I tried to find the page I had recognized.
"Yeah, this one," I said. I took a good look at the unfinished drawing, and everything was complete except for the right eye, which was clearly erased and redrawn many times. This face looks familiar...I thought to myself as she explained the drawing.
"I was in the art class this morning because my normal teacher wasn't here today and this kid wanted to draw me, so we tried to draw each other. It's just I can't draw two similar eyes." She said, sighing.
"But it's great!" I exclaimed, "It's super realistic."
"But you can't even tell who it is," Alice muttered. I bit my lip, feeling bad I couldn't name the person. I covered up the right half of the photo and only looked at the complete side when the answer finally hit me.
"Oh, is it Taehyung?" I asked. The one eye matched V's eye perfectly, and the mouth wasn't far off at all. Alice looked confused at first, then understood and nodded. "You mean V, yeah," She rephrased, "Yeah I tried to draw him."
The bell rung, but Mrs. Rawls was still cleaning up from a previous class. "I think it turned out better than his though," She said smartly. "He's better at painting than sketching." She pointed up at a canvas that hung on the wall of a watercolor painting of budding flowers.
"Mrs. Rawls entered his painting in a competition last year and it won second place." Alice said, admiring it from below.
"Second?" I wondered out loud, and she nodded. "First place was someone from a different school, and in my opinion V's was better anyway."
"Okay class!" Mrs. Rawls shouted, drying off her hands. "Today is another free paint day. Please make sure you only use the paint you need, thanks!" After she addressed the whole class on the paint issue, probably brought up by the previous class I assumed because of the paint trays still in the sink, she walked up to me, explaining procedures.
"Alice can help you out with where stuff is. This week is going to be a paint week. There are canvases over there, feel free to make whatever you like." Mrs. Rawls said. She walked around the room, checking up on everyone's progress.
"Haha, you know I have no idea where stuff is," Alice laughed, walking towards the area with canvases. I followed her and she opened a cabinet and took out one labeled with her name, already painted with a background and pencil sketches on it. "Here." She said, picking up a blank canvas for me. She handed it to me along with a black marker. When we sat down, she happened to have a pencil for me too.
