"So 'No More Dream' is supposed to be intense, right?" I asked, immediately answering my own question, "So get into the 'bad-boy mood' and start spitting rhymes!"
We had started practicing Suga's rap of the song, and I tried to make the dance as simple as possible. Jungkook and J-Hope stood at the sides of the huddle around Suga, keeping everyone together.
"Jigyeoun (sick of the) same day," Suga said slowly as I played back the music. "Yeah, and everyone else clap their elbows." I instructed.
What a weird phrase to say: "Clap your elbows" I thought, then shaking my head back into reality. Once they had finished that line, Jimin moved to the side and let Suga through."banbokdoeneun maeire (the repeating days)
eoreundeulgwa bumonimeun (grown-ups and my parents)
teure bakhin ggumeul juibhae (keep instilling confined dreams to me)"
I swiped my hand to the right, and as if I had pushed him, Suga slid to the side smoothly like he had been practicing this for months. "Arms around, together, and down!" I said to myself, shouting the "down" so they could hear. They held the position, looking around.
"Haha, not all the way you two," I giggled, Jin awkwardly ducking and J-Hope at the same level as the dancers in front of him. I hopped up from my seat and stood them back up, rearranging their arms and having them lean away from the middle.
"There you go, and you two look back," I said to Jimin and Jungkook, who were still looking at me while I walked around the group. In the middle of all this V stood in the middle with Rapmon hiding behind him.
I backed up, looking at the scene from back at the benches. "Perfect, now pull it," I said, looking towards Suga. He made a flimsy attempt to shoot his imaginary hand-gun. V, bouncing off of that minimal energy and didn't quite make it seem like he was being shot.
"Okay, okay, Suga, put some umph into it." I asked, reasoning with his tired persona. He looked at me with a sigh. "What kind of 'umph'?" He asked.
"Some energy that goes with the song; Gimme some 'Suga Swag', all the rapper-ness you've got." I requested with much more energy than he seemed to be radiating. It must have been an inside joke, since the other rappers, RapMon and J-Hope, laughed quietly in the back.
"Kay, can we start over?" Suga asked, "From the part before the rap I mean,"
"Yeah, of course!" I said, a little too cheerfully as I rewinded the song. When I looked up I heard Suga whispering to the group, "Don't y'all 'f' this up, at least try to look teachable."
A few of the boys rolled their eyes while others odded sincerely. They probably didn't think I could hear them, so I didn't comment. Everyone was in the right position so I counted down and started the song.
"La la la la la," I heard a few of them hum with the song. I whispered to myself, "Turn, clap, spin and clap," to keep myself on track.
"ni ggumi mwoni ni ggumi mwoni mwoni (What's your dream? What's your dream?)" I heard Jimin sing, enjoying himself. They stomped on beat with their arm out, then moved it back for a salute. Although it wasn't together in the back, everything kept going and didn't crumble apart (That's a plus). Some of them didn't do the foot slide, which messed them up in the later verse, but it seemed fine at the moment.
(La la la la la)
gojak igeoni gojak igeoni geoni (Is that it? Is that it?)
"Step, clap, turn-clap stomp." I said with the song, hoping it would keep them on track. It seems it did, and everyone moved in place for Suga's rap. Jimin went down in time, everyone clapping their elbows (quite a fun phrase to say, actually) to the beat.
"Jigyeoun (sick of the) same day," Suga rapped, louder than the music, actually. His voice carried, suddenly a harder and more rapper-like voice by the next line.
"banbokdoeneun maeire (the repeating days), eoreundeulgwa bumonimeun (grown-ups and my parents), teure bakhin ggumeul juibhae (keep instilling confined dreams to me)" He rapped, doing the arm movements and coming closer to the benches as if it was performance. My heart somehow started getting faster as he approached, quickly followed by him sliding back to the group.
This is the tone I'm talking about. Keep it going Suga. I thought to myself with a proud smile. He didn't seem to notice, continuing, "jangnaehuimang neombeowon.. Gongmuwon?" With a smirk, he put up his arm and pretended to shoot, just slightly tilting his head as if there was impact. I glanced back at the group and they were magically in position, V bouncing off the energy and swaying back and forth, falling over. He quickly bounced up from it and returned to the position I had told him to go just a few minutes earlier. Suga slid back into the group too.
I seemed to forget to stop the music, and most of the group looked confused, staring at me for directions. However, J-Hope took the opportunity to rap his part.
Tusu sigannangbiin yajae, doljikgureul nallyeo (Throw a fast ball at the waste of time that is night study sessions); jiok gateun sahwe-e banhanghae (Rebel against the hellish society,), ggumeul teukbyeolsamyeon (dreams are a special pardon)," He said quickly, doing the common rapper dance movements he knew and pretending to pitch a baseball. Everyone stood around him, still just watching. Jimin tried to help, but he ended up making me laugh.
"Okay, okay!" I called out, making both of them stop. "That was great. I loved it." I got up and gestured them to get out of position. V and Jungkook laughed, shaking out their legs. I get it, squatting is the struggle. Everyone was getting relaxed as they listened to what I had to say (I felt pretty mature, thank you very much).
"And you sir," I said, approaching Suga and poking him in the chest playfully. "You sold it!" I shouted, impressed. He seemed really embarrassed and scratched the back of his head in modesty.
"Really?" He asked, smiling.
"Really? Yes REALLY. That's the Suga I need - at least in this song." I said with a happy smile. I suddenly realized how happy he looked: it was a mixture of relief and contained enthusiasm that must've suddenly burst when he asked loudly, "Can I give you a hug?"
I was a bit shocked, but being me, I quickly replied with open arms and a smile. Embraced in a tight hug, he picked me up and spun around. I ignored the quiet snickers from someone in the group and he set me down. I laughed as he paced around.
"You don't understand how happy I am right now!" He cried loudly, stomping his foot in authority when he said "happy". RapMon patted him on his back, smiling, "That was great, Suga."
Suga seemed really happy, which radiated onto me too. The group surrounding him, showing him with either compliments, praise, or the hard pats on the back that all guys seem to do. After everyone started crowding him, he tried to find a way out, tumbling from the group. He stopped moving forward before he fell towards me and bent over, out of breath.
Looking up he heaved a breath of laughter. From behind him a voice began to rap.
"Saraganeun beobeul molla (Don't know how to live)," RapMon said with a deep and rumbly voice like it was later in the recording. I instantly recognized it, laughing a little at how it sounded without music.
"Naraganeun beobeul molla (Don't know how to fly)" Suga continued with a less rapper voice and more like he was speaking. Jungkook quickly caught on and began his part:
"Gyeoljeonghaneun beobeul molla (Don't know how to decide)"
Before RapMon could begin his next line Suga quickly began, "But I can decide I'd be very happy if you were our choreographer."
