Darkness {Young Justice}

Chapter 20

Garfield enjoyed the idea of wearing a mask. Yes he was a superhero, but he didn't need to wear a mask because he was green. To him wearing a mask was an exciting experience, he could be anyone he wanted. He could be Beast Boy or Garfield Logan. This was his chance to be Garfield Logan, a person he was before he became Beast Boy.

Cassie is looking forward to going to the ball. It was her chance to dress up and enjoy herself. All of the missions she had done were stressful and now she has a chance to get away from it for one day. She came out of her room wearing a gold and white dress. Her mask was the same color as her dress. She put on gold lipstick to match her dress perfectly. She walked towards the zeta tube and the others were waiting patiently for her.

"You look nice." Megan said. Megan wasn't green anymore, she transformed herself and Garfield to look like any other human. No green skin. Her dress was light blue and it got darker the at the bottom. She looked like she was wearing makeup, but she wasn't. It was just her nature beauty and nothing more.

"Thank you." Cassie blushed slightly even though no one could see it. She hoped that Robin would go, but she didn't know his real identity. No one did except Nightwing, Batman and Batgirl.

"We should go or we'll be late." Jaime said to them. Jaime didn't really wanted to go after the whole Darkness incident, but Megan somehow managed to convince him to go.

"He's right." Megan said walking into the zeta tube.

"Miss Martian." The computer said as the white bright light flashed. When the flash ended the others followed one by one.

Megan and the others arrived to the ball and saw how beautiful Wayne Manor was with all of the decorations. The food looked delicious and is was plentiful. Jaime looked around and wondered who has under every mask. The manor's aroma was mysterious and with people under the mask it made the place seem even more mysterious than it already was.

"This place is amazing!" Megan said. "I wish the others could have come." Megan wanted Lagoon Boy to join her, but he couldn't. He had something important to do like a lot of the other superheroes. He didn't tell her what and she didn't want to pressure him into telling her so she let the subject go.

Jaime walked towards the food and accidentally dumped into someone. The girl had a purple dress and she was going to fall down until he caught her with his arms. "I'm sorry." He said to her. 'This is embarrassing.' He thought to himself.

"It's okay. I should have been watching where I was going." A familiar voice said. He looked at the masked girl's face and he immediately knew it was Darkness. He stared into her dark blue eyes and was beginning to get lost in them. He wanted to ask her why she escaped, but he couldn't. She didn't know his secret identity and he couldn't tell her not now at least.

"I'm Jaime Reyes." He said. "And you are?" He wanted to get to know her better and this is his chance.

"I'm Melody Knoll." She said to him. 'Is that her real name?' Jaime thought. He wanted to ask her, but he knew he couldn't.

"Would you like to dance?" He asked. "For almost dropping you."

'Should I?' Darkness thought. 'Maybe I can glance around as I dance with him.' Darkness looked at him and gave him a fake smile. "Sure."

Jaime smiled at her, a genuine smile, and took her small hand in his. He leads her to the dance floor where most of the guest were. Jaime put his hands on her waist and she wrapped her arms around his neck. They swayed side to side in silence.

"How do you like the party so far?" Jaime asked her curiously.

"It's..." She couldn't find the right words to describe it. "Hard to describe. You?"

"It's pretty amazing," Jaime said as he twirled Darkness around, her brown hair flowed gently in the air and stopped when it was over.

Darkness glanced around looking for the agents. It was already hard to try and take the gun off the agent now she has to do it without causing a commotion or letting someone gets hurt. 'When is this song over?' She thought silently to herself. 'I can't look around without looking suspicious. Why did I say yes anyway?'

The song ended and Darkness bowed a little. 'Finally.' She thought as someone or two someones caught her eye. She noticed the couple fitting the Counselor's style, mysterious. "Thank you. I must be going now." She needed to follow them and she can't be distracted.

"Why do you have to go so soon?" Jaime asked her. 'Where is she trying to go?' He asked himself.

'Let her go and you can follow her.' The scarab said.

'Excellent idea.' Jaime thought.

'As always.' The Scarab said.

'And cocky.' Jaime added in his head.

"I really have to go I came here with two of my friends. They're probably looking for me right now." She said.

"Okay." Jaime pretended to understand. He let her walk away and when he thought she was far away enough he began to follow her. She went through the crowd gracefully she looked like she was dancing. Jaime saw she was following two other people. 'Maybe she really did need to go back to her friends. They seem to be looking for something.' Jaime thought.

'Impossible.' The scarab said. 'If they were her friends then why hasn't she called for them yet?'

'Maybe it's too loud?' Jaime thought.

'Stop making excuses. Just continue to follow her.' The scarab said.

'Fine.' Jaime thought.

Darkness saw the little purse the female agent was holding in her right hand. She looked up and saw Bruce Wayne at the top of the staircase. The agent was about to grab something out of her purse, but Darkness was already behind here.

"I suggest you don't do that." Darkness said in a low voice. "Agent Sibyl."

Sibyl stiffened at her agent name, "How?"

"You and I were recruited in the agency about the same time. I know the Counselor's taste in fashion." Darkness said. "And hello to you to Agent Sparrow."

"Darkness, how nice of you to join us." Sparrow said.

"Stop this, both of you. I can help you get out of here." Darkness said.

"How?" Sparrow asked. "We have trackers now. Thanks to your team's escape. They limited our freedom ever since."

"I can help you get them off." Darkness said. "Do you know where they put the trackers."

"In the back of the neck." Sibyl said.

"We need to make this look like I kidnapped both of you. We'll have to put up a good show." Darkness said to them. "Aim at Bruce, and shot after I tackle you. It's the only way to get you got of here without the agency becoming suspicious."

"Okay." Sibyl said.

"Good we'll do this when I count to five." Darkness said. "Sync?"

"Sync." Sparrow and Sibyl said.

"One." Sibyl reached for her pistol in the purse.

"Two." She took off the safety.

"Three " She began to take the pistol out slowly.

"Four." She began to aim the gun at Bruce.

"Five." She was tackled and a loud bang was heard.
