An Item for Greed- chapter 10 part 2- the back country

The beast looked up, pointed his nose to the sky, and sniffed twice consecutively, nostrils flaring. The beast snorted once, shook its head, and refocused on Castor. The beasts upper lip curled back to reveal a set of yellowing canine teeth- perfect for ripping the flesh from the bones of its next meal. Its teeth were uneven, and jagged. The left, upper canine was snapped in half, leaving a jagged shard in its place. The beast snarled, and threads of saliva hung out of its mouth in folds. The beast breathed heavily out of its mouth, each exhale causing the saliva to swing back and forth.

Castor scrambled to his feet, and took a step back. In turn the beast took a step forward. Castor took another step back so that he was side by side with Sam. “You grab the horses, I’ll grab my bag. Ready, one, two, THREE!” Castor yelled. Sam turned, and ran back wards about fifteen feet, and Castor bolted toward the beast.

Startled, the beast leaped to the side, and Castor grabbed his rucksack from were the beast had been only moments ago. Upon becoming reoriented, the beast batted a massive paw at Castor. Its long claws collided with the flesh on Castor's forearm, and he hollered out in pain. The blow didn't stop Castor, who kept on running toward Sam who was waiting with the horses.

Castor grabbed his horses reins, and climbed onto its back, quickly, he and Sam urged their horses into a canter, and fled the area where the beast screamed out in frustration.
