Chapter 29- the mirror guards
The woman stepped toward Castor, put her helmet under her arm, and held out her left hand to Castor. He shook her hand, and she said to him, “It’s a pleasure to meet you Castor, my name is Captain Poetz or Lillian in this case.”
Lillian’s emerald eyes smiled as Castor shook her hand. When he dropped it, Lillian turned on her heel, and addressed the remaining guards. “Stand down men, he means no harm,” she told them while nodding to her head toward Castor. “Follow me,” Lillian said to Castor. She walked to the edge of the cliff, and waited for him, but not once did she check whether or not he had followed her. From the corner of her eye, Lillian saw Castor step up beside her. “You know, it’s a good thing that you didn’t lie to me when I asked you what you were doing here. That just proves that you’re honest,” she looked at Castor and smiled, and then said,”But if you had lied to me, you would’ve ended up dead, just like all of those sorry bastards before you.”
“Well that sounds like a pleasant way to die doesn’t it?” Castor told her, smirking slightly. Lillian chuckled slightly for a moment.
“However pleasant that may sound, honesty comes at a price, but this time, it is me that shall pay. I’ll make you a deal. I will help you prove your point, but in return, you must get me out of this guard. I’m sick and tried of ordering around these bloody idiots all day long.” Castor stayed silent, contemplating her offer. “So what d’ya say?” Lillian asked Castor, interrupting his thoughts.
“Deal,” Castor said defiantly.
“Great,” Lillian commented.
“So, from here where do we go?” Castor asked Lillian.
“Well, first of all, we need to get out of the Demonic Peaks,” Lillian replied solemnly.
Lillian pulled a folded slip of paper from the neckline of her armour, and she handed it to Castor, who unfolded it.
On the slip of paper was a hand drawn drawing of a map. There were a few cities and land marks here and there, but the remainder of the hand was blank.
“What happened to the map?” Castor asked, his voice tweaked with curiosity.
“There’s nothing wrong with it,” Lillian answered with a puzzled look on her face.
“What happened to the edges? They’re just gone,” Castor asked.
Lillian laughed for a moment, and then said, “There are no edges, they’re just blank. They have yet to be discovered.” With his eyes narrowed in confusion, Castor slowly nodded his head. “Anyways, I think that we should go to the Dead Mans Temple first because after all, the legends say that the Item is hidden deep within it’s bowels,” Lillian recited with a smirk on her pale face. Castor nodded in agreement. Lillian nodded as well, then she turned away, and walked back to the group of guards.
When she reached them, she addressed them with, “You are to remain here, guarding this mirror, no one is to get in or out, understood?” she asked the guards who nodded vigorously. An aura of authority hung thickly in the air around her as she turned back to Castor.
