40 Years Later

Victoria POV

"How is she holding up?" Skylar asked me as she walked over. I sighed, "not well. I'm worried. What if...god Sky what if she dies?" I said, looking at my wife. She sighed and nodded, "if she does then...you know she'll be happy. She can be with Emily."

I smiled lightly, knowing that was true. My moms could reunite. I'm surprised mom even got this far with her cancer she succumbed years ago. She has heart disease now and has been fighting so hard but we don't think it's enough. "Hey moms," Emily walked into our house with her husband David at her side. "Hi sweetheart. Hey Dave." I greeted kindly and he kissed my cheek, "hey mom. Ma this is...for you." He took out red wine and Skylar gasped, "always know the best things to bring. Thank you David." She brought it to the counter and I looked at my watch, "your brother should have been here hours ago. We're going to upset grandma if we are even 5 minutes late. You know how she loves spending as much time as possible with you guys."

"I know she does and-" "Hey family. How's it hanging?" Our other son Sam walked inside with his wife Joclyn and their son Marcus. "Hey. Can we go now? Grandma's waiting. I don't like keeping her waiting. Let's go." I got my coat and Skylar chuckled as she put her arm around my waist, "relax. Your mom will be fine when we get there."

I walked into the room and mom was waiting for us, watching television. "Hey mom," I said and she turned to me, "oh! My favorite people and Victoria!" I scoffed, "thank you for that."

Everyone greeted my mother and Skylar smiled, "Hi mom. You look great, as always." She kissed her and mom smiled, "so sweet Skylar but you suck at lying."

I laughed and we all just talked about things and I said, "so how has your week here been? Where's Marge?" I asked, looking at where her roommate was. She sighed, "oh she passed 2 days ago. Had a stroke in her sleep. It was horrifying. Sounded like a gutter backing up." I raised my eyebrow, "oh? Sounds...fun."

She smiled and shrugged, "well. Anyways by the time I go I'm sure it'll sound just as pleasant as that." I bit my lip and looked down, "mom..."

"Oh please Victoria don't act like I won't some time soon. Isn't that why you all visit me so often? So you can get enough visits in before I go?"

I shut my eyes and said, "guys can you...wait outside? Go to the cafeteria or something."

They all nodded and Emily stayed behind. "Em. Sweetie go."

She sighed, "I want to stay here. Please mom I have a right." I groaned, "you and your rights. I swear. You sound like my Aunt Spencer." Skylar chuckled and so did mom. "Spencer sure was something huh?"

I smiled and mom sighed, "ironic. I was the first one to go when we were in high school but now...I'm the last."

I looked down at my hands solemnly. All of my aunts passed away. Even uncle Caleb. All of them passed within the last 5 years or so. I miss them all dearly but I am happy my mom pulled through.

"Yeah..." I whispered and mom spoke again, "you look just like your grandmother. Same name and same looks." she was talking to Emily and Emily blushed, "thank you Gran."

Mom smiled and nodded, "you know. Your grandmother was quite the swimmer? And quite the charmer. Oh! I remember when she took me to Paris. Just like we always dreamed we would go...and she always did the unexpected. She always went the extra mile for me. Never disappointed. She was so determined. Want to see pictures? I got some..."

"Mom-" "Oh hush it you," mom waved me off dismissively and Emily only laughed, along with Skylar. Mom pulled out her projector and hit the on button. It opened her holographic scrapbook and she smiled, "there is the picture from us back in the day. Rosewood High School. She was such a fox."
