The next few days passed in a blur and without any major incident. Mom got discharged from the hospital and was working from home for a few days at least. I started catching up on my studies and my music was going pretty well. Turns out that Jake and I played really well and add a drummer named Sophie and we were practicing covers of different artists.

I thought that I had too much of free time on my hands so I decided to get a part-time job. I knew that the server at Lucy's for Thursday and Friday evenings just left the job so I could get that job. Also I knew the owner really wellby now, thanks to Jake, so I was pretty sure I'd be hired.

Monday morning, I followed my usual routine. I got ready, waited for Jake and walked to school with him. Lexi didn't bother me much nowadays and I'd become friends with Sophie.

I attended my music class and the others followed. My routine which I'd grown accustomed to. I was sitting in German when a dilemma occurred. Mrs.Raab, my German decided to give us a project in which we had to make a documentary cum interview of any person of our choice. The only problem, it had to be done in pairs. It was a problem for me cuz I didn't exactly socialize in the German class. So after the class had dispersed I went to Mrs.Raab and said, "Mrs.Raab, it seems that I do not have a partner so I don't exactly know how to do the project."

"Well, why? I believe you do have a partner."

"No, I don't, we---" I began to explain when I was cut off by a familiar voice.

"Yes you do Callie. I just joined the school and the class."

I spun around only to come face to face with Ashton. A thousand thoughts swirled in my head. What was he doing here? Wasn't he home schooled? Because I was pretty sure that he was homeschooled because Alex had given me a long story about how he must have been kicked out of many schools for burning down chemistry labs, beating someone unconscious and some other wild theories which all ended with how the 'Bad Boy' had a crush on the 'New Girl'.

"Hey Ashton." I manage to say.

"I guess you two already know each other. That's great. I guess finding a partner won't be a problem for you now." It's Mrs.Raab pulling me from my thoughts.

Once we are out of the classroom I turn towards him and ask, "what are you doing here?"

"Walking- with you- I should probably add." He continues walking.

"Seriously, why are you here? Why aren't you homeschooling?" Oops that came out wrong. A flicker of emotion that I couldn't decipher passed his face. I decided that his personal life was a minefield I'd not do there. But surprisingly he answered with humor.

"I'd tell you but then I'd have to kill you." He was smiling.

"I thought only girls said that." I replied.

"I never thought you'd be categorizing."

I gave him a smile.

"Ok, I gotta go to my next class." I said.

"Actually you might just show me the way. Its History, isn't it?" Ashton's grin gave away the fact that he knew that me next class was history.

"What?! You there in history too. Well someone is turning into a stalker." I teased.

"Yeah that helps when you have it right in front of me," he indicated to my books. Out of the corner of first one my timetable was peeking out. I guess I must've forgotten to chuck it in the bin.

"Oh yeah," I smiled and tucked the paper back into my book and walked to the History class with Ashton.

History passed with dead men groaning for burial and I was out of the class as soon as the bell rang. I decided to wait for Ashton when he came out and declared that he was going to the music hall. Since it was my free and Jake would also be there I decided that I'd accompany him there. Walking beside him I asked him, "so what do we do for German?"

"Huh.."

"German project. The interview thing." I reminded him.

"It's easy. It'd be over within a week if not less." He was too calm and composed about the whole thing.

"And how exactly is that going to be possible. In case you don't know it's a foreign language." I strained the word foreign.

"Not to me. I lived in Germany till I was eight. So it's a slice of pizza for me." He said.

If I were drinking something I was sure I'd choke on it. Instead I just stopped dead in my tracks. "What did you just say?"

"Oops, a slice of pizza, old habit I guess. People usually give that reaction." He said and shrugged.

"And why exactly do you say that?" I asked him

"I don't know if it will make sense. But you see, I don't get it why it always has to be a piece of cake. Why can't it be a slice of pie or pizza or a can of coke? It makes me feel that I have no choice and I hate having no choices. So instead of moping around, I create my own choices. It's not as much about 'why a can of coke or slice of pizza' as 'why not a can of coke or slice of pizza.'" He explained.

I gaped at him, dumbfounded.

"Does that make sense?" He asks uncertainly. I don't know what he was uncertain about. His explanation or his ability. But I certainly got the point hammered in my head.

"Absolutely it does," I manage to say.

We start walking again. "So any way, where were we...oh right. German project. We'll get it done."

I had almost forgotten about that. "You said that you lived in Germany till you were eight." I thought of asking him why he shifted but kept my mouth shut tagging it as a minefield. So instead I said "that's surprising, you never cease to amaze me."

"When did I amaze you except for when I told you that I lived in Germany?" He questioned.

"Well let's see...charity boy, home schooled, stalker boy, deep thought boy, German boy..." I trailed off smiling.

"What do I say Callie Adams, I'm full of surprises." He mimics someone whom I instantly recognize.

"Hey, don't you dare go Augustus Waters on me. That guy literally had water up to my eyes." I said, then added, "from laughing."

"Who is this Augustus Waters that you are talking about?" I knew that he was acting but t played along.

"If you don't know Augustus Waters then you have missed one of the most charming personalities to ever exist in the fictional world." I said.

"Well then it is your duty as a concerned citizen of this planet to make my acquaintance of this Augustus Waters." He grinned.

"Surely. I will. And we'll visit Germany and preferably the language in the process." I grin back already thinking of the movie. "How about this weekend? I'll text you my address." We had reached the music room now.

"It's a promise." Ashton said before entering the room.
