"Shut up and back off Lexi." Someone chimed in from the back.

"Oooh, looks as if the newbie has got a guardian angel." The person- Lexi said.

"Yes, she has, now back off! And you, yes you all," my savior said pointing to the crowd, "can't you help. You filthy asshats"

The crowd slowly started clearing and the girl asked me, "Are you all right!"

"Yeah, you were pretty rough out there?" I mumbled, a little embarrassed.

"Hmm, don't mind Lexi, she is just an insecure little bitch who thinks, and the keyword here is thinks, that half the school is drooling over her. I'm Alex by the way. Do you want to have lunch with me." She was quite breathless by the time she finished juggling her time between walking and talking...non-stop.

"I'd love to. I am Callie." I said heading towards the empty table that I spotted.

We sat down for lunch at a table in the corner of the canteen and we had lunch with occasional talks. We discovered that we had German, History, and English together.

We went for History together. I had this habit of reading during my free time so I caught up easily. Next up was German and it was a new language for me. I'd changed from French to German and it was a horrible experience, somewhat along the lines of Ich, Du, and some other shit. Also, it was one subject where I did not have a partner so either I had to do everything alone or be the third wheel everywhere. And English, well it was a piece of cake.

The school bell rang and everyone forgot that we were in someplace called school. Suddenly the whole place was swarming with two-legged creatures called humans pushing and shoving as if hell had broken through.

I realized that it would be better if I waited until the hallways cleared out.

I sighed once the corridor turned silent and started walking towards the exit door.

"Hey wait up!" called out Jake from behind me. "How was your day?"

"Umm... you mean besides getting picked on at lunch by the deadly diva Lexi, not getting anything in German and that includes a partner and barely surviving a human stampede, well, it turned out to be just fine." I gave him a lopsided smile.

"Well, sounds like a handful but at least it was better than my first day." He said slinging his backpack over his shoulder.

I joined in as he started walking. "What, you had a day worse than mine? What happened to you? Got beaten by the bulls?"

"Woah," he sounded surprised, "are you sure that you are not a stalker who stalked me on my first day of school then magically disappeared only to return again because you realized that you couldn't live without stalking me."

We were outside the school gate now. "What? I got it right?" I enquired.

"Well, nearly," he gave me a smile before adding. "I got beaten up by a guy called Bryan and that's not even half of it."

"Tell me the whole story."

"You Camille Adams are one curious lady but alas! The story is long and must go on till the end, might I add, without a pause." He said in a singsong voice.

"You are one hell of a poet," I couldn't stop smiling' "and as for your 'long story' I've got all the time."

OK. So turns out that he DID have a day worse than mine. Besides getting beaten up he had some wet and sticky stuff poured over his head which sounded pretty ugly, he got scolded not mention detention for being late after lunch, and all on his first day. It was quite amusing. I always thought that things like this just happened in movies.

He walked me to my house going back to his own. I plopped down on my bed wondering how on earth I was going to finish my German homework without having understood a single word of it.

It was almost four when my cellphone rang. I picked it up expecting mom on the other end. "Hey, girl! Sup? Hope the rest of the day turned alright for you." It was Alex on the other end.

"Yeah, it did," I answered.

"What you doing right now." She asked.

"Well, I'm stuck with German," I pouted.

"I can help you out. Tell me your address." She replied.

I dictated her my address and fifteen minutes later she was in my room and instead of doing my homework we were having snacks and chatting. Suddenly Alex's phone rang and since she was over in the other room I picked it up. "Hello, Alex's phone."

"Hey, I am Alexis's mother, I wonder why that girl keeps telling everyone that her name is Alex. Can you please hand over the phone to her." Alex's mom said.

"Yeah, sure," I replied and handed the phone who had come to stand beside me.

"Hello mom," Alex smiled.

Pause.

"Yeah, okay sorry."

Pause.

"Umm....I'll be back in one hour."

Pause.

"Love you too, bye."

No sooner had she disconnected the call I pounced at her, "well that is one hell of a way to find out that you lied about your name."

"Well, yeah about that...I really don't like the name, Alexis...I mean it's good and all but Alex just suits my personality." She gave me one of those sad lopsided smiles.

I scrunched up an eyebrow examining her. Alex was about 5'6, fair complexion, and a pixie cut and incredibly good-looking in a tomboy sort of a way.

After that, we seriously did our work and to say that Alex helped me was an understatement. She practically did all my work. Too bad she already had a partner named Rondo in class. Weird name I know. I wonder how I will ever get a grip on the language.

She was almost out of the door when she turned around. "Oh yeah, I forgot, there is this concert at the Rogue's club. Just a bunch of bands doing free gigs. I heard they are good. Want to come?"

"The Rogue's club," I could hear the apprehension in my voice, "doesn't sound too appealing."

"Hey, I know that people tend to doubt the Rogue's club because of the name, but it's nothing like that. Please come. I have no one to go with," she pleaded before passing a wicked smile, "besides I did save you from Lexi at lunch today."

I gaped at her openmouthed, "what-"

"Don't you what me! Please come, you'll enjoy, I promise."

"Yeah, I guess," I finally gave in."

"I'll pick you up on Saturday. Wear something nice." She smiled at me before shutting the door.

It was going to be one hell of a Saturday.
