Stubborn Love

chapter: 16

dfg   Its prom today. Zak is coming to pick me up at 6:00 and its 4:00 now so I have two hours to get ready. When Chloe found out about me being Zak's date for prom she decided she was going to be getting me ready. So that is why I am sitting in a chair in her bathroom while she gets me ready. My back is to the mirror so I have no clue what she is doing to me. All I know is that she is going to take forever.

   An hour and a half later she finally let me see myself. When I looked in the mirror I gasped because I looked like a different person. I didnt look like Grace the teenage mom. I looked like Grace, the most beautiful girl in the world.  "I'm glad you like my master piece. You look great Gracie," Chloe said standing begind me. "Thank you," I said spinning around to hug her.

   My brown hair was done in a low bun at the back of my head. Some pieces of hair were left down framing my face, and it had a slightly messy look. But it still looked absolutely amazing. My make-up was done relatively lightly. I had brown smokey eyes with winged eye liner. My cheeks were a rosy pink and my lips were a rose pink colour, that sparkled when light hit them in certain spots.

   I stood infront of the mirror looking at myslef for a while before I made my way into Chloe's room. She was on her laptop waiting for me. "I know I made you look fantastic but you dont have to keep staring at yourself like you are going to turn ugly in seconds," Chloe said to me. "Hahaha very funny," I said sarcasticly.

   She just laughed at me and stood up. I grabbed my dress from the garment bag and looked at it for a few seconds. I forgot how beautiful it was. Chloe helped me into the dress so I wouldnt ruin my hair. When it was on I slipped on my shoes and put my jewelry on. I then walked over the the full length mirror and admired myself.

   "You look gorgeous Grace," Chloe said coming up behind. "Thank you Chloe," I said spining around carefully to hug her. "It wasnt a problem what are big sisters for?" she asked me pulling away. I smiled a hug smile at her then walked over to her bed to grab my clutch. My wallet and phone were already in there so I only had to add my lip gloss to the bag.

   When I was fully ready I slowly made my way down the stairs being careful not to fall. I am not the best at walking in heels. My mom and dad were in the living room with James so I went there to show them 'Chloe's Masterpiece' as I am called.

   As soon as I stepped in the room they started showering me with compliments. "Oh darling you looked wonderful," my dad said giving me a small hug and a kiss on the forehead. "Thank you daddy," I said to him. My mom walked over to me carrying James. "James doesnt your mommy look beautiful tonight?" she said looking from me to him. "Oh mom you are so silly," I said to her.

   "What hunni its true. You truely do look beautiful," she said giving me a hug. "Thanks mom," I said to her grabbing James. "Hi baby," I whispered to him giving him a kiss. I left a lip mark on his cheek so I slowly and carefully rubbed it off. There was a knock on the door signalling Zak's arrival so I handed James to my mom.

   I made my way to the door and opened it. I came face to face with Josh. He looked very handome wearing a black suit with a white shirt and black tie. "What are you doing here Josh?" I asked him. "You look beautiful Grace," he said to me avoiding the question and looking me over. "Thanks. You look very handsome too," I said to him.

   "Thanks," he mumbled. "I dont mean to be rude, but what are you doing here?" I asked him. "Oh I heard from Jen you were going to the Prom and I just came to see if you wanted a ride," he said to me. I smiled because he is just the sweetest. "I would love a ride from you Josh, but I am going with Zak. He asked me to go with him as friends," I said to him.

   He visably tensed and let out a small cold okay. "Uhh I'm sorry," I said to him feeling bad. "Its okay, he got to you first. Just save me a dance," he said. Then he leaned in and planted a kiss on my cheek very close to my lips. "Ok I will," I said to his retreating back. He smiled at me before he got in his car and drove away. When I was going to close me door I saw Zaks car pulling on to my street so I yelled a bye into the house grabbed my clutch and went outside.

      I walked over to Zak's car when he parked and climbed in. "Hey Zak," I said leaing over to give him a hug. "Hey Gracianya. Lookin good," he said. "You too," I replied. Then we were on our way to the school. We jammed out to Nicki Minaj on the drive there.

   Walking into the gym I looked around. It definitely didnt look like the gym I rememeber. Where many hours of sweat and pain took place. Lets just say I am not the biggest fan of PE.  

   I spotted Jen so I excused myself from Zak to say hi. He went over to his friends while I went to mine. Zak isnt a fan of Jen, Mason, and Josh. He prefers the nerd type people.

   I said a quick hello before I found Zak again and took a seat. Prom King and Queen were announced. Josh and Amy won, big surprise. They danced together and poor Josh looked uncomfortable the whole time. When they were done their spot light dance everyone else could join in on the dance floor.

   I danced crazily with Zak for many songs till a slow one came on. Zak excused himself because he isnt a fan of slow dances. I was going to walk off the make shift dance floor but Josh approached me. "I'm here to claim that dance you saved for me," he said grabbing my hand and spinning me around. I laughed out an okay and we began to dance.

Josh's POV

   I'm really disappointed that Grace didnt come to Prom with me. Ever since we started dating which seems like forever ago since we are no longer together, I have wanted her to be my date. I know it may sound girly but I wanted her to be my prom queen instead of Amy.

   At least I get to dance with the most beautiful girl here. We are dancing to 'Holding Out For A Hero' by Ella Mae Bowen. This is one of Grace's favourite songs. Having her in my arms like this while we slow dance bring back memories from before. I wish we were still together. I want to ask her out but I dont know if she will say yes. I treated her really awfully when I first found out she was back.

   I opened my mouth to say something to her, anything to break the silence but I decided against it. I like the comfortable silence and having her in my arms. I slowly started to think about my conversation with Jacob earlier. I made the mistake of confiding in my older brother with girl issues. He told me to grow a pair and man up. He said to ask Grace out that way I can be a present father in James' life.

   When the song was coming to an end I decided to ask her out. "Grace will you go out on a date with me?" I whisperd in her ear. Her head which had been resting on my shoulder lifted up till she was looking me in the eyes. She searched my face and eyes probably for signs of sincerity before she said, "I would love to."

   A huge goofy grin found its way onto my face. Which I later learned would be there all night. "Awesome," was my smart reply. When the song ended Grace hugged me tightly then gave me a kiss on the cheek. Then she wanered off to go find Zak.

   I really hate that guy. It feels like he is trying to steal my girl. Even though Grace isnt officially my girl she is still my girl. That makes me sound really possessive doesnt it? Anyway I dont like Zak. Something is off about him. I just dont know what. Grace saying yes to me though proves she doesnt have feelings for him in that way. Which makes me feel relieved.

   I hung out at the dance for a while. I talked to a lot of people, since I am pretty popular and I know a lot of people. Some people I am not even friends with tried talking to me. Just to be nice and polite I held a conversation with them but they were never very long.

   At 10:00 everyone had to leave because the dance was official over. I quickly found Grace so I can say bye to her before we both left. "Bye Grace. See you tomorrow maybe?" I said more than asked. She laughed her melodic laugh before saying, "Definitely Josh. See you tomorrow." We hugged one last time before we parted ways.

   When I got home I took a shower then went to bed. I couldnt fall asleep though because I kept thinking about my date with Grace. I have know idea where to take her. All I know is that it has to be perfect. That night my thoughts were soley focused on the beautiful, amazing, Grace,
