Chapter 5

Echo's POV

The drive to Gannon's house was one of annoyance, anxiousness, and a feeling of anguish. Gannon and Rissa were in cars ahead of me, something I didn't mind since I didn't necessarily want to be the first there. I know it sounds ignorant that I wouldn't want to be at Gannon's, but his family is the wealthiest of all, and I despise wealth. I wish people would live in the average amount of income needed to survive well enough, not overcompensating for everything.

As we pulled up the the massive gates, I felt my stomach knot. Gannon had the gates opened, and our cars went through. The long paved drive went for half a mile, and was surrounded by trees, then the massive house came into view. There was a large fountain, stairs, the hedges were trimmed to literal perfection like every blade of grass, and every leaf. It was insane, but Gannon's mother was one to put on a show.

Gannon knocked on my window. I hadn't realized I'd been sitting here for a few minutes just staring at everything. Sighing I turned my car off, and unbuckled. He opened the door and pulled me from my car smiling. I wonder why he's so happy all of a sudden?

"So Brains, today's BBQ is going to consist of all the parents, families, and others to the group going on our little trip." Rissa said smiling too. I squinted at them, and stared quizzically.

"Isn't your mother going to give you crap about your clothes?" I said to Gannon who sighed and rolled his eyes as we entered the massive house. As we entered I noticed little kids running about inside. There was mild noise, and it was coming from the backyard area.

Rissa, Gannon and I made our way to the back pattio and that's when I wanted to leave. The five of six of us had their families, friends, and parents here at the moment. There was a mass of people, and right now, the three of us are the center of attention. I glared at Gannon who smiled at me innocently.

"There you three are!" I heard Mrs.Hawke say happily, and soon I was being embraced warmly by Gannon's mother. I patted her back and she moved on to Rissa who hugged her back excitedly. "What took so long?" She asked and Rissa piped up.

"Last minute packing." She lied and Mrs.Hawke nodded smiling nonetheless. Sure I felt bad, but it's not like it was a large lie.

"Honey go change from those please. At least wear some jeans." She spoke giving Gannon a look which I poked and made fun of him for. He gave me a look which made me smile and laugh.

"Good to see everyone getting along." I heard Mr.Grey's voice. Instant panic set in my stomach, and Rissa covered me.
