Chapter 6

Gannon's POV

As I sit here in this cushioned seat watching Adam, Rissa, and my Bookworn argue over who's right about something as stupid as the origin of a specific word, I find myself wonder how we all came to be to this point in life with each other.

I met Echo on a rainy, crappy day. A day that I want to forget, but can't. It was the same day I found out my twin brother, Ethan, had died. I was in school when I was told he had died from an allergic reaction to something. Something we were always cautious about. He didn't make it to the hospital in time.

I found myself in the library because that's where he loved to be. He was the smarter of the two of us. Loved reading, and was the popular, quiet, shy type. Opposite of me, but I still loved him. He had a specific spot he sat in the library, and when I went in the library that day, I found Echo sitting on the floor with her back to the wall, staring at the spot. Turns out she and my brother loved to read the same books. Out of the entire group, she's the closest I am with anyone, hell even my own family. I think in that day, she became a sister, exactly like my brother, and that's why I adore her so much.

The others in the group have cliche meetings. I met the guys through sports, and the other girls through Adam, and an ex-friend we had. She's no longer a part of our group because she couldn't treat Echo with respect, something I'm seeing Jane slowly do.

I jumped slightly when I heard something foreign to me. Echo's hearty laugh. She has this quiet, gasp like, almost hiccup sounding laugh when she means it, and I haven't heard that in...well in ages. I jumped because she gently nudged my leg with her hand. I wasn't expecting it. I don't know why she was laughing so hard, but she was.

The others in the group were staring at her, and we all just joined in. Of course Rissa was already laughing  along with her. It use to be just us three.

"N-No. It's origin is Italian, not Germanic." Echo was still laughing. "Why would...normally it would start with a borgo, or borgh." She smiled at Luke who was nodding along smiling as he looking through the dictionary on hand.

"You know, it's just amazing how you're a walking dictionary, and thesaurus. As well as a fact book, and encyclopedia of just about everything." Adam patted her head.

"It'll come in handy over in Italy." I spoke up, and her hazel green eyes had a twinkle in them. "Parcel. What's its origin." I spoke quickly.

"Latin. Old French. From Particula, Parcelle. Late middle English." She spoke in return.
