Chapter 16

Echo's POV

When I entered the house guards were stationed, and I ignored the awkwardness as I walked through the house to the kitchen. Sometimes I wish I could just be alone, and other times I wish I was just back in my shitty little apartment back home where it was nice and uneventful.

I made my way to the kitchen and paused as I saw some women interacting, along with some teenage girls. I didn't want to be among them, but I wanted something to eat and drink and then I was going to lock myself away in the library. I silently made my way to the fridge and gained the attention that I didn't really mean to grab.

"Hello." I heard a peppy voice spring into action. I had a bottle of water in my hand and I sighed in defeat. Just try to be nice Echo. I closed the door and turned round to see a middle aged woman smiling at me brightly. I gave a half smile back.

   "Hi." I said shyly.

"Who are you? I'm Morgan, Clara's friend. I came in to get some food." A girl smiled at me offering a hand. I took it and smiled back.

"Echo." I replied, and spotted a bag of chips. I grabbed them, there were plenty more, and waited for the conversation to be over.

"Oh. You're the girl Clara talked about. She's right when she said you're very shy." Morgan said smiling. Bluntly, I suppose it's in her personality?

"Morgan." The older woman said in a motherly tone. The girl smiled at me, she meant no harm and I wasn't offended. I just want to go read.

"It's fine." I said with a soft smile. "If there isn't anything else I'm going to-" I started and was cut off when someone walked into the kitchen speaking.

"Mom I asked Marco if he wanted Vinny and Clara to join us like you asked and-" The man stopped speaking when he walked completely in. He looked at me, and let his eyes wander. "Uh-hm, he said that you'd have to speak with him and Gulia." He said redirecting his focus on his mother I suppose.
