When I woke up, it was completely dark, and I was tied up and gagged.
"Oh, you're awake." Brendan said in the darkness, sounding pleased with himself. "Doesn't matter- I actually prefer it. Breaking you in will be so much easier if you know exactly what happened."
I had forgotten vampires could see in the dark. Stupid thing to forget, but you try being kidnapped by a sociopath who wants to kill your boyfriend to avenge the death of his father, and you see what comes to mind first!
"He should be here soon. If he doesn't come soon, I'm going to have to ungag you, and make you scream in pain." Brendan continued. My eyes widened. Did he mean...? (Yes, I know what that is, Cake explained it to me.)
Brendan was silent for a few minutes, before saying, "Of course he's never bitten you, but if he had, he would have been very gentle. I'll just have to make sure I don't snap your neck when I get ahold of that delicious human blood..."
Okay, slightly better.
Brendan sighed. "Damn it, Marshall. I didn't want to spoil my appetite." Suddenly, he shut up, and then I felt someone pull my gag down. "Are you okay, Fi?" Marshall asked me, concerned.
"Marshall, it's a trap! You need to get out of here before Brendan-" I hissed.
Suddenly, Marshall was gone, and I heard the sounds of fighting. I hoped that the yelps of pain at odd intervals were from Brendan, but I honestly couldn't tell.
Then it just stopped, it all just stopped. There was a few minutes of silence, and I whispered, "Marshall? Are you alright?"
One of them walked over to me, and knelt down in front of me. If it was Marshall, he had a clear shot at my lips. If it was Brendan... he had a clear shot at my neck.
I shuddered softly, and Marshall said quietly, "It's okay, Fi."
He untied my wrists, and I untied my ankles before hugging him. "I was so scared he was going to hurt you, that he was going to..." I trailed off, having burst into tears.
"He can't ever hurt us again." Marshall said, groaning quietly. "Though I must say, he managed to get in some good hits..."
I dragged him back to his house and turned on the light. I nearly screamed when I saw him- he was covered in blood, breathing heavily, and he had several gashes and bruises all over his body. His shirt was tattered, and he looked like he was about to collapse.
He grinned at me half-heartedly. "I know, I'm an entirely majestic ruler, and I look extremely sexy."
"Marshall, you look like a feather could knock you over at the moment. One more hit, and he definitely would have knocked you unconscious, then he would have killed you." I said quietly, getting a wet washcloth and cleaning the wounds before they closed.
I made him hover on his back right above his couch to clean him up better. "I couldn't let him win." Marshall said quietly. "I just couldn't. He was fighting for anger, I was fighting for love. I can get even more corny, with the future and the past and whatever else I throw in, but the fact remains that I had a better reason."
"Well, thanks for that. But at the moment, I wouldn't have cared if you fought for three strawberries. I'm just happy you're alive, and upset that you're hurt."
"It was either get hurt, or let him have you, and I chose the first option." He snapped suddenly.
I was quiet for a minute. "I hope this doesn't get infected..." I finally said quietly, looking nervously at the gash in his side that just wouldn't stop bleeding.
