CHAPTER 7: Osiris
I had never been to the West Forest for years, but this moment that an intruder carelessly shooting with their guns in the wild, I finally got back, exploring it again.
Our village didn't give privileged for hunters from the other towns to take their expeditions especially in this area. The area had been very restricted as a perfect home for the creatures. I didn’t want the terrible thing that happened some years ago to happen again. I hoped it wasn’t too late.
I stepped in the very first bush that bordered the forest. Matt and Kieran were behind me. We really didn’t know where to look for but I thought this was my responsibility to protect the village and the whole district.
The flash of my past was pinning my head on every step I take. I heard voices saying Friz! Where’s Levi?! Friz! Where are they? Friz! My people, all of them, were calling my name for help.
We came across this fallen tree, chopped and rotted. I was struck by this blinding flash in my mind, back again to my past, blurred and a little painful.
I saw this tree fell right in front of me. I saw people being leveled by this tree full of angst. I saw the others on the next side of the tree survived but screaming. They were so scared and they didn’t know where to go. The wind busted down the trees, and the weaker ones lost their roots gripped under this vast land. I heard them screamed “Friz!” constantly.
I couldn’t remember who were the people got killed by this fallen tree. My head was aching so bad and I was about to get seizure from this flash of light on every second that I tried to remember everything.
“Sir Friz, everything’s fine?” Kieran approached me that knocked me back to my conscious state. I nodded with a serious face.
After a while, I bent and sat down near the poor wolf. Simultaneously, Matt and Kieran sensed something far ahead.
The blinding flash pinned my head again when I touched the wolf on its head covering its right ear a little down to its crest.
No, this can’t be happening again, I said to myself, gazing at this poor wolf. I was still conscious until I saw the shot on its shoulder. Flashes dug my memories...
— Armed people from the city were shooting and killing these poor animals who tried to defend their territory. I saw them with my own eyes.
They were guarding the mining base that an influential man built and it was my fault because I thought it was a great deal for our growing village. Day after day, we couldn’t do anything but let them took it all. That was the deal. They gathered all their money to buy a big land in the West Forest.
I reached out and asked my dead father if I did the right thing, but he never answered me. Everything was on my decisions and will.
The mine was filled with raw metals especially gold. Again, it was my idea— forged all the gold resources into a bountiful profit for the village. It was a mistake and I never thought they would end up destroying the part of the forest and the home of these poor creatures.
