CHAPTER 19: Unwanted Burden

I quickly went inside Jane’s room, leaving Friz alone in his room while Alice followed me behind. Her room had two open windows in the left and south wall. Her bed with end tables each side was in the center, and her desk was next to the door.

“Jane?”

She was awake. She noticed me then her face turned to the other side of the bed, curled under a thick blanket while hugging a pillow tightly.  I glanced at Alice in question of what had happened, but she only gave me a worried face, shaking her head. She touched my back, pushing me slightly inside.

I sat on Jane’s bed where I could see her face. She barely looked at me but I could see her eyes getting teary.

“Hey, Jane? What’s going on? Why are you scared?” I said, touching her strands of hair.

Alice was standing at the next side of the bed, having her arms folded together around her breast, looking so upset about Jane’s condition.

I took the pillow that Jane had been hugging and moved her to lean on my right thigh.

She grabbed my right arm and cheerlessly moaned. She was pushing herself against my torso and I didn’t know why she was so scared.

“Jane, are you hurt? Something’s painful?” I asked as I embraced her, rubbing her visible side of her back with my left hand.  She was still grasping my right arm.

I rippled my forehead and looked at Alice again, showing a ‘what’s going on?’ face.

Jane began shivering. Her legs kept twisting under the blanket. She kept groaning and pushing against me.

Alice sat on the other side of the bed, clenching her hands as if she was praying, looking at Jane.

“Jane, please tell me what’s wrong?” I asked and removed her grip on my right arm, moved her gently against me, letting her arms fold around my body as tight as she was in deep pain.

She groaned louder. Every second, she was really in pain. I was gazing at her, confused and worried.

“Jane…” Alice said in a brittle voice.

“We need to bring her to the city hospital,” I exclaimed. I was nowhere no how could think any possible way.

Alice helped me pulled out the blanket from her, but we both noticed her abdomen was glowing.

I remembered the last time Jane glowed at the West Forest. But this time, it was her belly.

Alice stood up away from the bed, covering her mouth, knowing that she was surprised.

Jane was still pushing herself against me hugging my torso and crying. Every scream she made, her abdomen was getting brighter and brighter. Jane what is going on? I wanted to lift her out from the bed but her grip around me was stopping me.

I raised my left thigh and fully sat on the bed. I moved Jane again to lie on my thighs, making her more comfortable with her grip on me.

I glanced at Alice and then watched Jane’s abdomen glow. I kissed her in the forehead, while brushing her strands of hair with my right hand and giving her balance to lean on with my left hand.

“Kieran, no science can explain this… what are we going to do? We can’t bring her to the city.” Alice gave stress to me but I understood her being concerned, too.

I stripped up Jane’s blouse slightly so I could see her glowing belly. I touched it gently and it shined brighter as the light passed through my hand. It somewhat stopped Jane from shivering.
