She had suspected she was pregnant for a while. She had morning sickness and she couldn't even remember the last time she had her period. Her and Killian couldn't seem to get enough of each other and sometimes they neglected protection in their lusty haze; sure she could take the pill but her busy schedule meant she could often forget it or she didn't want to deal with the embarrassment of the people at the pharmacy joking about it and spreading it around town until eventually her mother and father or Henry found out.
She wasn't sure how to feel as she braced herself on the sink and stared at the 5 pregnancy tests she had just used. She wanted to be sure if she was pregnant. Sure enough, all of them had the little blue plus that marked her as knocked up.
Her first reaction was joy. She loved Killian, he loved her, she had a great job, an amazing support group of friends and family to help her and she was mature enough to handle it this time.
Her next reaction was dread. She had never taken care of a baby before, short of taking care of her brother for an hour or two while David and Mary Margaret got some relaxation time. Being pregnant hadn't been so great but hopefully this one would be different since she wasn't behind bars this time. And what about Killian? She was pretty sure he would be happy about it but he probably didn't have any experience with infants either, he was a pirate for Christ's sake. He was great with Henry though. She had caught him making silly faces at her baby brother from time to time when he thought nobody was looking and she had seen how he stared at her crib in the underworld.
They could do this. It might be difficult but that's what friends and family are for. She settled on utter joy as she looked at herself in the mirror. Tears made her eyes sparkle in the light from the bathroom attached to her and Killian's bedroom. They had been living together for almost a year now and had truly settled into the big house, not to mention gotten married. Henry had his own room that he slept in every other night when he wasn't sleeping at Regina's and there was a spare room that would be perfect for a nursery.
How far along was she? She had to be pretty far in since the morning sickness was actually starting to subside. She sniffled and turned sideways, lifting up her cream sweater. It could just be played off as winter weight but Emma knew her own body, she definitely had a bump. That meant she was at least 4 months in. Why hasn't she checked sooner? That doesn't matter now, she thought as she smiled at the bump in the mirror and rubbed the smooth skin of her abdomen.
"Swan?" Hook called from downstairs. Emma met her own gaze in the mirror again and started laughing. They were going to have a baby. She grabbed the pregnancy tests and as casually as she could walked downstairs to greet her husband.
"Hey." She smiled and accepted his peck on the lips as he set down their dinner. Grilled cheeses and onion rings, food she would never get tired of. She grabbed a slightly greasy napkin from the top of the bag and placed it down on the table as Killian grabbed the food and distributed it between the two of them. She carefully placed the pregnancy tests on the napkin, wouldn't want something with pee on it touching their dining table.
"What are those?" Killain asked after he threw away the empty paper bags and wrappers and sat down.
Oh damn, of course he wouldn't know what they are. He had been figuring out what different things were in the world but pregnancy tests were something trivial nobody thought to teach him. And the little image saying what each result meant wasn't on the sticks individually, only on the box which was left in the garbage bin upstairs. "I'm pregnant." Emma tried to say casually but she had to bite her lip to keep from smiling and laughing. She couldn't bring herself to look at him either.
"Emma." He said. That prompted her to look at him, he rarely called her Emma. He had frozen, the only part of him that moved were his widening eyes and bobbing Adam's apple.
"Yes?" She still couldn't read what he felt about it. So far it wasn't looking good.
Every so slowly, a smirk emerged and turned into a full blown smile. He stood up quickly in unison with Emma and walked around the corner of the table to wrap his arms around her and lift her up so their lips met. It was a soft and loving kiss; it was also a long one so they were both panting when he finally pulled away, still holding her up.
"That's wonderful news, Swan." He looked like a Labrador puppy when he smiled as big as he was and she loved it.
"I am glad you think so. You can put me down now." She smiled and he gently set her down.
"Oh I probably shouldn't do things like that. It could hurt the babe." He looked a little worried as he look at her stomach.
"As happy as I am that you care, it's alright if you do that. The baby is pretty deep in there, it's pretty hard to hurt him or her." She lifted up her sweater so he could see the little swell that was his child. He sank down to one knee and tentatively touched it, so light a touch that it sent a quiver up her torso. He placed his hand more firmly and slid it and his hook over to her sides and placed a kiss right above her navel, his ever-present stubble tickling her in the process.
He straightened up to find tears shining in his true love's eyes at the gentleness this supposedly dangerous and villainous pirate was showing to her. He closed his eyes and touched his forehead to hers, keeping it there.
"I'm scared, Swan." He admitted.
Emma moved her hands to his shoulders and closed her eyes as well, letting her sweater fall back down and absorbing the warmth of him. "Me too Killian, but we have each other and just about the entire town to help us out."
"I don't know the first thing about being a father, love." Killian shook his head a little. Emma grasped the sides of his face and looked him in his beautiful blue eyes.
"And I have only been a mother for a few years since I gave my baby up. We can figure this out, trial and error. I love you Killian Jones." She said firmly and quickly pecked his lips.
"I love you too, Emma Swan-Jones." He smiled again and spun her around in a circle, both of them laughing.
