She went to lunch with her mother and father. Still no Killian. She showed them the ultrasound photos and happily revealed they would get one of each grandchild. They were ecstatic about twins but said they would have three now and they felt old. She let them keep one of the photos and made up an excuse that Killain went sailing with Henry to break the news and that's why he wasn't there.
She told Henry next, she came home and he was sitting on the couch playing a video game. "Mom!" He smiled and practically jumped over the back of the couch to get to her. "How did your ultrasound go?"
"Well you are getting not just one but two siblings. A brother and a sister." Emma beamed but her heart was sinking as she quickly realized that Killian wasn't here at home.
"That is so awesome! You guys are so awesome!" He talked to her belly on occasion, telling his sibling, now siblings, about all the fun things they would do together once they were old enough. He would boast about him being the author and that they were lucky to have a brother as cool as him.
"You really didn't see that coming Mr. Author?" Emma teased, making hot coco with cinnamon for the two, or four, of them.
"Well I had my suspicions you were pregnant since you worried about it for so long but the twins are news to me." He settled back into his game while he waited for his hot chocolate to get hot.
"Has Hook been through here?" Emma asked offhandedly. She was trying to be casual about it but she had been more anxious as the day had worn on and she didn't even catch a glimpse or a whisper of her dashing pirate.
"No, why?" He flashed her a quick smile when she set down the hot drink in front of him.
"He was just acting a little weird when we found out it was twins. He went into the hallway because he was panicking I think and I haven't seen him since." Emma shrugged but she could feel the beginning of tears at the back of her eyes. She felt like she had cried more during this 4.5 months of pregnancy that she had in maybe her entire life but she wouldn't cry at this.
"Aww that's too bad, I'll let you know if he turns up in the book." Henry agreed.
"Thanks kid."
She called Regina and told her, she was sad, Emma could tell but she congratulated her and promised to tell Zelena and spread it around at Granny's for anybody that cared.

She had stayed awake in her favorite chair in the living room for what seemed like days but she ended up going to bed an hour before dawn. Still no Killian.
He wouldn't abandon her. He had made that clear, she could trust him. He was just having an extreme reaction. He would show up in the morning with bear claws and hot coco, apologizing for his bad form. Til death do us part, right?
She kept her hand on her bump as she climbed into bed, his side of the bed because she missed him just from the day he'd been gone. "Where is your daddy?" She whispered.

Another few days and no Killian. Emma tried to keep herself busy, she was decorating the nursery almost nonstop, she and Killian had ordered a crib from Geppetto which he had been diligently working on but Emma had to ask for another for the other baby. She had asked that both of them were modeled after the crib from her childhood nursery she never got to sleep in.
She decided to paint now before the paint fumes would make her sick. She opened all the windows in the nursery and cracked open the first can of pale gold paint. She was roughly dividing the room in half, deciding that she would put a slightly more nautical theme for the baby boy's side knowing that Killian would appreciate it when he came home. Using liberal amounts of painters tape and some patience she got half the room done without touching the ceiling, moldings or carpet. She would let that dry over night before putting on a second coat for good measure then starting the other half.
She could ask for help but eventually people would start questioning why the father of the children wasn't helping. She even felt bad that she was doing this without him but he should feel guilty when he comes home that she was so worried that she started to work on the nursery to keep her mind off him. She had been telling people that he was fishing or sailing or treasure hunting or something else that they couldn't really locate him doing so she would be fine for another week or so if he didn't show up. Which he will. She let down her walls for him, he wouldn't just leave her.
