You Could Have Stayed

Chapter 2

Killian wasn't just scared, he was terrified. Happy yes but it was eclipsed by his shock and fear. His own father had been terrible, abandoning his children then essentially replacing them without checking to see if the other ones were dead. He left them alone to a life of servitude.
Sure he had interacted with Henry and Baelfire when he was a boy but they weren't his own children and they were much older.
Seeing the bump of his wife's stomach had put his fears on hold for a bit though. He knew enough to know that women wouldn't show immediately, Emma had been pregnant for a while. That meant he had less time to prepare.
"We should probably tell my parents and Henry and the whole gang." Emma brought his attention back to the real world.
"Shouldn't we talk to the doctor and get it confirmed first?" He nervously chuckled.
"We will but you know the second I ask for the test it will spread all over town and get to my parents before I have the chance to tell them. Mom would kill me if she found out from somebody else." Emma started worrying her lip between her teeth, a sure and familiar sign that she was nervous about something, and not just the test.
"What is it, love?"
"I'm just worried about Regina. Not only do I get you back from the underworld while Robin had to stay dead but now I am having a child and she can't ever have one of her own." Emma sighed.
"If Regina is truly your friend she will get over it, she did get rid of her darkness remember?" Hook grabbed Emma's hand and pulled her towards the door where her car keys sat in a bowl.
"You're right. I hope you're right."

"Enough pacing Emma, what did you ask us all here for?" Snow asked, adjusting Neal in her arms. Emma beamed at her brother as Killian took a step closer and wrapped his arm around her waist, setting his good hand on her hip to calm her down.
"Would you like me to say it Swan?" Killian murmured in her ear. She swept her eyes over everybody here in the loft: Snow, David, baby Neal, Regina, Zelena, baby Robin and Henry. No, she should do it.
Emma cleared her throat even though everybody was already looking at her expectantly. "I'm-we're going to have a baby."
Everybody was silent. Emma scanned everybody's faces but they didn't give much away.
"Really?" Henry asked, breaking the silence that had just started to become uncomfortable. Emma nodded. "Awesome!" He jumped up off his stool and run into a hug with his mother, bumping Hook away in the process.
Henry's hug triggered everybody to get up and congratulate the happy couple. David immediately went to Killian and he looked a bit sheepish but David just opened his arms and hugged his son-in-law. Zelena was a bit standoffish since she and Emma weren't exactly friends and she had used Hook to take away Emma's magic in the past but she gave them a warm smile. Regina was crying, Emma felt terrible.
"Regina, I know that this is really unfair to you, I got my true love back and you didn't and I-" Regina cut her off with a slight wave.
"Emma, I am truly happy for you. I may not be able to have children of my own but we have Robin and Henry. The Evil Queen is gone remember?" She half smiled and accepted the hug Emma gave her.
"Mom, Dad, how does it feel to be two time grandparents at your age with your own baby?" Emma chuckled as she found her way back to Killian and wrapped her arms around his waist.
"I'm not gonna lie, it's very strange but I kinda like it." Charming smiled and kiss his daughters forehead.
"Are you sure Emma? Have you talked to Whale?" Snow asked.
"No not yet, Emma knew you would all find out eventually so she figured she should tell you herself first." Killian answered and didn't try to hide his smile or his fingers absently tracing designs on his wife's belly.
"Well go!" Snow made a shooing motion with her hands while Emma laughed.
"And hey how about you keep this one the proper length?" Zelena suggested as they walked out the door. Emma blushed.

"Well Miss Swan, you are definitely pregnant. Congratulations. I think it is safe to assume the entire town already knows." She got the results a day later over the phone from Dr. Whale. She had put the phone on speaker when she saw the caller ID and Killian had heard everything so far, he went pale and sat back but the corners of his lips were ever so slightly curled up and Emma took that as a good sign.
"You know that is not my last name or my title anymore. And yeah I am sure of that."
"We can work out ultrasound appointments and such if you come in sometime later this week. I can get you a female nurse to do them if you want, I have been told I am not trusted with other men's wives." Emma could hear the teasing in his voice, he probably assumed Killian was listening and knew how to push his buttons. But Whale being the only doctor in town meant that you had to play nice with him.
"Oi!" Killian sat back up and Emma laughed.
"Thanks Whale, I appreciate the call. We can figure that out. Bye." She turned off speaker and tapped the red end call button. She quickly texted in the group chat that it was confirmed but everybody already knew. You cannot keep a secret in this damn town.
