13. Ryder
Ryder's POV
Not Edited"Well, how is she? What happened?" I asked, practically jumping up and down trying to see Marley. It has been exactly five hours since I found her and brought her to the pack house. Since we got here I haven't been able to see her making both I and my wolf impatient.
"Ryder," The pack doctor soothed. "I'm going to need you to calm down. Your wolf is too excited and it's making Marley's wolf wanting to come out more."
"What do you mean? Isn't that good?"
"Well," She paused. "In this situation; no. Her wolf wants to shift but it is causing Marley's physical body harm."
"Wait-what do you mean?"
"I mean, Marley's wolf wants herself to be known but she is too weak. Not only the wolf but Marley herself. If Marley's wolf continues to put so much strain on Marley's physical body, she could eventually die."
I was instantly consumed with fear and anger. Just the thought of Marley being dead made me go crazy. My wolf stopped growling and sat down whimpering.
"I want to see her." I suddenly spoke.
"Okay but keep in mind, if Marley wakes up, make sure she stays seated. She's unstable. If at any point she begins to stumble, give her this." She passed me a small pill. I nodded and walked into Marley's room. It pained me to see her still body limp underneath the covers just because her wolf wanted to appear suddenly.
I grabbed a chair and sat down while taking Marley's small hand and rubbing her fingers, as if rubbing her fingers would fix everything.
I never expected my mate to be a confused werewolf whose wolf would almost killed her own human self. I also didn't think my mate would be as odd as Marley, but honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. Marley is my opposite and sometimes it bothers me that Marley is so stubborn.
Or difficult.
But that's beside the point. Marley is full of mystery. A mystery that she herself has yet to find out. Marley is a book that I want to read.
Someone placed their hand on my shoulder making me jump and whip around. My mom smiled sweetly and jerked her head to where my hand was squeezing Marley's hand. "You're going to hurt her." I loosened my grip on her hand as my mom sat down on the bed, close to Marley.
"She's really pretty." She whispered with a smile. I stayed quiet but smiled in agreement. Mom reached forward and moved a piece of Marley's hair that fell onto her face. "I want you to take good care of her."
"I will. I'll do all that I can to make sure she's safe, but mom," I stopped and sighed. "I'm scared."
Mom smiled. "That's fine Ryder. You’re scared for your mate’s well-being but you have to stay strong. Don't get too scared that you just give up like you normally do in some situations. You know," Mom smiled and looked up as if getting lost in her memory. "When you were born your father was so scared. He didn't know what to do when you cried and would always give up and pass you towards me. Eventually I told him to suck it up and at least try to find out what you crying about. He tried so many different things to make you happy and when he finally got it right he felt like the best father ever."
She sighed happily and looked over at me. "The point is that you have approach this differently. Try once and it fails; it doesn't matter. Just pick yourself up, clean off the dirt, and try another route. And no matter how hard it gets don't give up."
I nodded. "Thanks mom." She smiled before getting up and kissing me on the forehead.
"Good luck." I listened to the patter of her shoes on the tiled floor before the door clicked signally I was alone with Marley.
