15. ‘First Shift’

Marley’s POV
Pain and torture was all that has been happening in the past hour. When I woke up, I woke in a dungeon with blood streaks all along the walls. Other people, mostly women, chained to floor with rusty chains, begging to be released which only earned them a slap in the face.
I’ve been chained next to a rotting bodying that was scheduled to be removed and a girl around the age of fifteen. Each time one the men would come in they would growl, oddly and laugh when we winced in fear.
The metal door burst open and a man with a scare on his left cheek walked in. He searched throughout the room until his eyes landed on me. “Marley Walker, mate of Ryder Blake, the soon-to-be-Alpha of the Silent Striking Pack.” He laughed coldly, but with every word he said I became more and more confused. First off there was ‘mate’ again. Ryder had told me to leave it alone but now it seems too important. Secondly, Alpha and Silent Striking Pack. It doesn’t take a genius to know that Alpha is a leader and a pack is a group of people whom stick by each other’s side, but what does that have to do with anything?
A sneer made his way onto his features as he grabbed one of the keys from its hook. “You don’t know how long I’ve waited to ruin that bastard’s life.” He snapped the chains off and grabbed my arm roughly and began dragging me out the room. I tried to pick up my pace so that I wouldn’t be dragged around like a little kid dragged their doll around but he was too fast. His walk was the equivalent of me running.
He stopped abruptly making me crash into his back. Ignoring his glare, I looked past him and to the dirty metal door in front of us. The door was thrown open by a man who gave off a type of strong power. He showed off a toothy grin and tugged me inside, making the other man shut the door behind us.
He began rumbling through some files before suddenly turning to me. “Marley, yes?” I nodded in response. He sent me a cold smile before he pulled out a needle from one of the drawers. I tensed up and backed up. “Now, now Marley, we personally have nothing towards you,” he paused, “it’s your mate Ryder whom we have a problem with.” The other guy who led me inside the room nodded in agreement.
“M-mate?” I asked, focusing on the man. He paused, holding the needle a few inches in front of his face.
He chuckled and slowly put the needle down, “How do you not know what a mate is? Isn’t it the best thing for you lovely-dovey pack members?” I shrugged making him laugh. “Look at that, Talon. She’s the mate of the soon-to-be-Alpha of the one of the strongest packs and she doesn’t eve…you do know of werewolves, yes?”
“Obviously. But that’s in movies, how does that apply to this. Furthermore, who are you and what do you want from me?”
The man chuckled and said, “Oh dear. We have some explaining to do before we proceed. Talon, grab me a chair.” The man, whose name was Talon, grabbed a near-by metal chair and placed it behind the man. He sat down and smiled evilly over to me. “Werewolves are not some fairytale or ‘Twilight’ bull shit. First of all, werewolves do exist. They live among the humans, and those stupid humans don’t even realize it. We shift when we please and some do what they want. Others, like you, are held down by a man whom is the Alpha and can tell other werewolves, and sometimes humans, what to do with just the tone of their voice.
Werewolves, much like dogs, like to stick to a pack. There are over a hundred packs in the US alone, all with their own Alpha, Beta, and Third in Command and if the Alpha finds their mate, a Luna. Beta’s and Third in Command are like the Alpha’s ‘right hand man’, or men. Now, werewolves are not safe. Not safe from their own species and most certainty not humans. Humans who know of the werewolf world have a chose; help or betray and become hunters. Now what I mean by ‘werewolves are not safe from their own species’ I mean they’re not safe from rouges. Rouges are werewolves who run away or are kicked out of their pack or whose wolf has completely taken over.” He paused and looked over to Talon.
