16. ‘The Beginning of the End’

At first Ryder didn’t respond, making me regret the decision to kiss him. I don’t even know why I kissed him. Not like I didn’t want to but I had no intention of kissing him. I wanted to, Marlene pushed me to. I began to pull away when suddenly Ryder pulled me flush against his chest and kissed back.
Sparks erupted and I would have fallen if it weren’t for Ryder’s arm caging me. Happiness pooled me as I wrapped my arms loosely around Ryder’s neck. Marlene howled happily, I assumed it meant she was happy. Ryder’s lips and I’s move perfectly against each other, as if we were acting out an act and we knew our lines perfectly.
I moaned when Ryder trailed his tongue along my bottom lip. Obviously Ryder heard my moan and smirked. Wanting revenge I bit Ryder’s lip and received a deep moan from Ryder. I pulled away with a smile, a breathless smile. Ryder rested his forehead against my own and frowned.
He whispered, “Oh what you do to me Marley.” I shook my head and slowly untangled our bodies.
“You still have a lot of explaining to do.”
Ryder sighed and grabbed my arm. “I know. Shift.” He ordered.
“What?”
“Shift.” He repeated. “We have to get to the pack house and running as our wolves will get us there quicker.” He explained.
“Wait, what’s a ‘pack house’?” I asked making my fingers bend into quotation marks when I said pack house.
“You’ll learn everything as soon as we get there.” He walked behind a tree. “Take of your clothing and shift.” I gasped and gripped onto the shirt. “I won’t peek. Hide behind a tree.” I sighed but followed his orders.
‘Alright Marlene, how do we shift?’ I asked her and took off the top.
‘It’s like shifting into a human but instead think about four legs, fur, and well wolves.’ I nodded and began to concentrate. ‘Oh and by the way when we shift pick up the shirt if you don’t want to be nude and stuff.’
My bones cracked like they did earlier, it was less painful but still hurt like a bitch. Once I shifted into Marlene I stepped out to see a midnight black wolf sitting patiently by a tree. A twig snapped under my foo—paw making the wolf look up. I knew it was Ryder due to Marlene becoming jittery and the silver eyes.
He walked up to me and nuzzled his head into my neck. Marlene jumped forward and mimicked his actions. Ryder stepped back, making both Marlene and I upset, with an amused look in his eyes he ran. Dirt flew up as his feet hit the ground while I stood there dumbfounded. I shook my head from the debris and hurried after Ryder.
He kept close though, knowing I would probably get lost within a matter of seconds. We continued running, Ryder in front of me by a few feet. My eyes widen when we reached a large grey bricked house. Ryder stopped and looked over at me before walking behind a tree and walking back with just basketball shorts on.
“Come on,” he stopped next to me and stroked me behind my ear making me, us, purr. “I’ll explain everything inside.” I nodded and followed Ryder inside the house and to Ryder’s room. Inside of Ryder’s room he patted his bed signaling for me to jump on.
I hopped on and jumped when Ryder placed the blanket over my body. “Shift.” He ordered and turned around. I shut my eyes ready for the pain to pass. I heard my bones crack and I bite down onto the blanket to keep myself from howling in pain.
