"Hey, Rory, what do you want to eat?" she sat at the island on her phone, scrolling through her timeline.

"Chicken and rice would be great, Nick," she smiled at him. "I really need to clear up my TL."

"Same."

"How's Halo going, man?" Aurora heard the loud sizzling of the chicken hitting the oily pan. "Any LCQ's or anything?"

"Nothing really important, I guess." Nick shrugged. "Just some roster changes and that's it."

Rory stayed silent as she waited for the chicken and rice to be prepared. It wasn't awkward at all, it was comfortable to say the least. Getting up, she swiped the towel from Nick's shoulder and started washing the dishes.

"Hey, are you going to Orlando?" Nick asked, turning around to look at her.

"I think I will be going. Matt just seems to drag me around with him."

"Oh yeah, speaking of Matt," he smiled, thinking of her joyed expression when he finished the sentence. "Heard he's got some wild date for you two."

Just like he imagined, her clean face lit up like a lightbulb. Trying to hide her excitement she asked him if he was being serious.

"Why would I kid, Rory?" Nick opened his arms for a hug from her and she embraced him tightly. "Your hair smells nice."

"Thanks, Nick." She inhaled his scent, cologne mixed with some manly husk and a bit of sweat. Perfect, it seemed like.

Pulling away, he looked dead in her eyes and what came over the both of them they didn't know. Nick leaned in and so did she.

Seemed like Matt was at the wrong place at the wrong time, for he walked into the kitchen to find his baby-cakes kissing Nick.

God dammit, he thought. Why doesn't it ever go right?
