After about an hour of awkward silence my common sense started to kick in. I was at the back of the train, probably out of bounds, because I was talking to a Slytherin boy I didn't even know. I was going to be in trouble and I was getting colder and...sadder. All of a sudden, I swear I could hear a girl crying.
"I'm going to go back inside," I say and turn and rush back inside, catching a glimpse of something black float through the trees next to the train track.
I was starting to feel faint and I walk quickly back down the corridor, I wanted to see Hermione or Ginny. Maybe I was going crazy, but the crying was getting louder and the train was slowing down. We were almost back at Hogwarts.
I run down the corridor between the compartments, looking like a complete idiot when I looked through the window of each one that wasn't my friends. Eventually, I run into Fred.
I try to rush past Fred in the walkway but he stops me, holding onto my shoulders as my hands begin to press over my ears.
"Whoa, Ris, you look horrible, are you okay?" Fred asks, looking worried. I can't even answer I'm loosing it that much. Tears are starting to fall.
When I don't respond, Fred, wraps and arm around my back and leads me into his compartment. Fred, George and Lee Jordan were all looking at me, but I didn't notice. I was trying to calm my breathing, and stop the girl in my mind crying.
It takes a few minutes, but when Fred keeps telling me it will be okay, and that in fact only a minute ago Lee had just been laughing about the prank they had pulled on Draco, the happy thought pulls me out of my state.
The train stops and people start getting off.
"Thanks," I say to Fred, intending to give him a quick hug, but he doesn't let go straight away.
"That's okay," he says pulling away eventually and standing up. He offers me a hand and I stand up. He follows closely behind as we all get off the train.
"Thanks again Fred," I say and smile at him, "I don't know what happened," he smiles back before heading over to a carriage to take him and his friends to the castle. I turn away and look for Harry, Ron and Hermione's carriage and spot it just as its about to leave.
"Wait!" I call out and run up to it. I literally jump up and in next to Hermione. "Almost missed it," I laugh.
"Where were you?" Hermione asks and I shake my head.
"You don't want to know," I say looking away when she gives me a suspicious look.
"Have you been crying?" Ginny asks, noticing my puffy red eyes.
"No, honestly, it was nothing." I say not wanting to worry them or have them think I'm crazy.
We sit in an awkward silence thanks to me, all the way to the castle. We hop of the carriage and wander inside to the great hall. I sit next to Fred on one side and Hermione on the other.
"You sure your okay?" Hermione whispers in my ear.
"Of course I am," I say and turn my attention to Professor McGonagall who is bringing out the sorting hat.
We listen to the song the sorting hat sings. It goes plenty longer than normal and gives us the message that we should untie. I look at Hermione who's thinking hard about what the hat said. I shake it off as we watch the new first years get sorted, cheering loudly whenever we get another Gryffindor. Then, almost my favourite part of Hogwarts happens - the food appears. We all stuff ourselves silly with roast chicken, potatoes and pumpkin juice.
