My sixth year at Hogwarts was going incredibly well. Fred and I had gone public about our relationship, I was receiving letters from my him and also my godmother every week, and I was keeping up with all my classes.
Harry however, wasn't.
Whilst Hermione, Ron and I sat around the smallest table in the common room, scribbling essays and repeating spells over and over, Harry was invested in his positions book. And not in a 'I will memorise this recipe' kind of way. He was searching for more spells that the mysterious 'half-blood prince' had left behind in the spaces of the margins.
"Harry, Snape will be sooooo mad if you don't finish your essay," Hermione says, trying one more time to convince him to start.
"Have you ever heard of sectumsempra?" Harry replies, completely ignoring Hermione's plea.
"No I haven't Harry. And that can't be a good thing! You can't just go around learning spells that are just scrawled all over the pages of a positions bo-!"
"Shhhhh!" Harry cuts her off. "Someone will hear you!"
"She's right you know. Most times it doesn't even tell you what the spell does," I say.
Harry shrugs, still not taking in how dangerous we think this is. "This one says 'for enemies'"
"Ok look mate, as much as I'm sure that spell would do something bloody brilliant to Malfoy, you just can't. Don't bother learning or practicing it because you would get expelled."
Everyone looks at Ron with mouths parted, surprised by his sudden contribution to the matter.
I look at Harry. "Harry please, you know we support your crazy ideas when we see the logic behind it. But we just can't with this."
"Hand me some parchment please," was all he replied as he wrote the title to his essay across the top.

"Harry, are you sure you'll be alright?" I ask as we watch him put on a thick jacket.
"I'll be with Dumbledore, of course I'll be alright," Harry replies.
We couldn't really argue with that, so we gave him a hug goodbye as he went to find Dumbledore, and hopefully a Horcrux.
"I'm not going to be able to sleep, anyone want to play a game of wizard chess?" Ron asks and knowing full well I wouldn't be able to sleep either, I agreed.
How much time had passed since Harry had left - I couldn't tell. I was beginning to get tired, and thinking that maybe I would actually be able to sleep I started towards the dormitory.
Adrenaline is a strange thing. You can be as tired as anything but as soon as you see something that you know in your gut is wrong, you'll be able to run and think as if you had all the energy in the world.
It was the dark mark that kicked in my adrenaline. Glowing brightly above the astronomy tower the green was shinning through the windows, turning my face the colour it felt.
"Shit!" I yelled. "The dark mark is above the astronomy tower!"
Within seconds Ron and Hermione were at my side checking for themselves.
"You don't think?" Ron asked but Hermione and I had already started running, pulling out our wands. We ran through the portrait hole and down corridor after corridor before we finally came to the astronomy tower. There was a great deal of yelling, a duel was definitely taking place. We stopped running and crept up the stairs, slowly. It wasn't until we hit something that didn't even seem to be there that we stopped.
I moved my hands out in front of me, feeling for whatever it was. It was dark, but not so dark so as you couldn't see what was in front of you. Then I knocked something, and at my feet appeared a pair of glasses.
Hermione gasped as Ron pulled the invisibility cloak off Harry. In an instant Hermione reversed the spell that had petrified him and without any explanation Harry ran towards the fight.
This was one of those crazy Harry things we supported. But when we reached the top Professor McGonagall had just cast a final spell as someone only recognisable as a death eater jumped from the tower, floating to the ground running towards the gates, followed closely by Professor Snape.
Again, we went after Harry as he ran back down the stairs and after the death eater that was getting away. We passed a group of teachers gathered at the bottom of the tower together but they were so preoccupied with something else that they didn't even try to stop us.
"Sectumsempra!" Harry yelled aiming at Snape, but he was too quick and deflected the spell easily. At this point we had stopped running. We were confused. Why was Harry attacking Snape? Was Snape not trying to stop those death eaters from escaping? He was on our side.
Or so we thought. When Snape turned around we could see, even from the distance that he had never been more furious.
He gained on Harry within seconds. "You're a coward!" Harry still managed to scream. "How could you do this after he trusted you?! Sectumsempra!" He yelled again, but it was deflected once more. We had never seen Harry so filled with rage.
"How dare you use that spell on me? How did you find my potions book?" The pair were yelling so loud we could hear everything they were saying. "I am the half-blood prince! And you will never understand the sacrifices I have made! You are just some stupid boy!"
Snape turned and began running back towards the castle gates as Harry fired spell after spell at him before he disapparated right before our eyes.
I ran to Harry, ready to ask a million questions.
"Dumbledore is dead. Snape killed him." Harry said, his voice dry from the screaming.
Those six words made it feel like I had just been hit in the stomach with a bludger.
"Wh-what do you mean?" Ron asked. Harry started to walk back towards the astronomy tower to where the group of teachers had been gathered. They moved aside as Harry walked towards them, and we watched as he knelt down next to a pile of robes.
I looked at Hermione who was crying into Ron's shoulder. I looked at McGonagall who's face was buried in a handkerchief. I looked at Ginny as she rest a hand on Harry's shaking shoulders. I tried to look everywhere but at the body that lied still before us. But I had to know, was it really him? I stepped forward next to Harry and couldn't control myself as the tears began to fall, thick and salty, blurring his silver hair and half moon glasses.
It was undoubtedly Dumbledore. And it made me feel guilty for I knew I should be thinking of how sad it was...but in reality I couldn't stop thinking that we were doomed without him.
