Although the holidays were over, and I had to say goodbye to Dad, I was super excited to be headed back to school. I missed magic and I was eager to see what the response would be when people found out I had changed my name to Black instead of Lestrange.
For those who still thought Dad was a mass murderer, it might make it worse. But it would certainly be funny to see people try and figure out why the change had happened. For once I was looking forward to seeing Draco and what he would say about the situation to his Slytherin buddies.
Fred and George had spent the first day telling people the truth in which I had run away from my Mum but none of them seemed to buy it.
Just as I thought the new school term couldn't have gotten off to a better start, I remembered Umbridge. I don't know how I could have forgotten about her, or the fact we had been secretly meeting to learn magic she wouldn't teach us.
"Harry," I whispered to him as we sat at our usual seats in Defence Against The Dark Arts before lunch, "can you call a DA meeting for tomorrow? Please?" Harry nods and I grin widely. We spent our first lesson back revisiting all the things we had copied from last term. By the time we had copied the new work on the board as well, my hand was aching and I could feel the scar on my arm prickling. As we left for lunch, my stomach was growling.
We made our way to the Great Hall, and unlike yesterday when I had been distracted about being back, I looked for Logan. When I asked Fred if he was in Potions he shook his head and asked "why do you care?"
"I want to punch him in the face," I say through gritted teeth which makes Fred smile.
"There you are Harry!" Oliver Wood exclaims as he makes his way over. "Quidditch practice this afternoon, alright?"
"Already?" Harry complains which makes Wood's ears turn red.
"Of course already, we need to beat Hufflepuff in two weeks time so we are ahead for the Quidditch cup." Harry groans in response as Wood slaps him on the back, "that's the spirt!" He says clearly not getting the point.
"Harry, do it now. Change the date on the coin," I say and Harry pulls out an ordinary galleon and taps it with his wand. I feel the coin in my pocket get warm and pull it out to see today's date. A few people look at Harry happily but Hermione shakes her head.
"It's the first day back! We already have two essays we need to write. Normally I'd say we should but-"
"But what? I'm already going crazy from that lady," Ron says.
We somehow manage to convince Hermione to come to the DA meeting after dinner. It was only going to be a quick half an hour session.
As we make our way to herbology after lunch, Harry suddenly grabs his head where his scar is. We stop walking momentarily and watch, knowing what was happening. The same thing occurred last year during the Triwizard cup.
"Harry?" I say as he keeps his eyes closed, "Harry is it the same as last time?"
He continues to keep his eyes closed as he falls to his knees. "Harry!" Hermione screams shrilly.
"Mate, is it worse?" Ron asks. We were all kneeling next to him, intensely watching.
"I saw something this time, it was like I was looking through somethings eyes. I could see a door and...I can't put my finger on where I've seen it before." Harry says.
"You saw something? It wasn't just hurting?" I ask worried.
"Yeah."
"You need to go to Dumbledore," Hermione says at once.
"No! If it happens again I will," Harry assures her after giving him a stern look, "I'm sure I've seen that door somewhere..."
We walk into herbology late, but quickly join Neville in identifying different plants. Although Neville wasn't the best at charms he sure had a knack for remember the different types of plants and what they were used for.
As the lesson stretched on, Hermione and I would glance over at Harry for signs of his scar hurting again. When he caught us for the third time he gave us a death glare and walked away.
Dinner that night was a bore. Dumbledores speech was interrupted once again by Umbridge with a hem hem which caused me to accidentally swallow my food without chewing and create a scene as I choked.
Most of Gryffindor was in the common room early after dinner to get ready for the DA meeting. We stagger ourselves as we leave the portrait hole, each taking different roots to the room of requirement. Once everybody was counted for, we went over the things we worked on last year.
I partner up with Neville who was looking nervous, but ready. "Okay Neville, disarm me," I say and hold up my wand.
He raises his wand and flicks it in a circle as says "expeliarnus!"
My wand flies out of my hair and Neville catches it. "Great work Neville!" I say as he smiles ecstatically. He hands my wand back I do the same, completing the spell with ease.
We then break off on our own to try patronus charms. I smile as I confidently raise my wand, remembering the moment Dad and I had shared in the holidays. I had a father now. "Expecto Patronum!" I yell and a silver dog erupts from the end of my wand. I smile as I keep thinking of the happy memory and the dog runs around the room. The dog looked just like my Dad's anamagus.
I take a small bow and decide to help some others for the last part of the lesson. Harry stays and helps Skilah for most of the lesson, causing George to make several comments.
Fred and Ron were working together to try and stupify each other, but most of the time the other managed to block it before it reach them. I laugh as Ron looks at me for a spilt second, dropping his guard and Fred quickly stuns him.
"What are you laughing at Ris? Stu-"
"Protego!" I yell, ready and block his spell.
"Yeah I'll give you that one," he says before then saying "Orchidious!" I raise my wand ready to block the spell but a bunch of flowers erupts from the end of his wand. Fred hands them to me making me blush slightly.
"Remember what I said Fred?" I question passing them back. Hermione and Ron were looking over at us.
"That's okay, I'll give them to someone else," he says and hands them to Luna Lovegood who smiles before airily saying 'thank you.' "You know I'll keep my word." He says and I frown at him.
"And I'll keep mine," I say not giving up. The fact he was fighting for this made me feel uneasy, but in a good way.
"Whatever you say, Ris," he says winking and leaves to head back to the common room.
