We were seated at a nice table that was closest to the bowling lanes, and Gabbie allowed me to sit down first and then went to the other side of the table.
"They have wonderful pizza here, and you know how I feel about pizza," Gabbie told me as she looked through the menu.
I interlocked my fingers and placed them on my lap. I felt really awkward. It was really busy for it being the middle of the afternoon, but I wouldn't blame them. It is a wonderful place after all.
Gabbie took a look up at me from the menu and carefully set it down, asking, "Anxious or something, boo?"
I gave her a quick nod and adjusted myself deeper into the couch that was my seat.
She got up from her couch and went over to mine, sitting next to me.
"Does this make you feel a bit less anxious?"
I nodded again as she picked up my menu and opened it.
"How about we order something together? It's much cheaper that way, and I don't have much money anyways," she suggested as she flipped to the back of the menu.
"Oh, you don't have to pay for the whole thing. I have money. Don't worry," I told her as I twirled my thumbs on my lap.
She looked at me and slightly shook her head.
"Keep it. Consider this some 'Welcome to L.A.' lunch. I don't know, but just let me pay."
"Fine," I muttered.
I felt bad. She really didn't have to pay for me at all.
We heard muffled screeches behind us, and Gabbie looked back. I heard her let out a soft sigh and turn back around to face me.
"If they come up to us, I'm sorry. You know how it is with fans. They all really want to meet me," she laughed.
I could tell that she really didn't want anyone to bother her tonight, but I knew she loved her fans too much to say no to them.
What did we know? They came charging towards our table. The three teenager girls and their mother were all surrounding us, and I sunk deep into my seat, gripping tight onto the end of shirt.
"Gabbie! We love you so much! Can we have a picture?" said one of the screeching girls.
"Yes, of course. C'mon," she replied with a smile.
She got up and took the pictures with the girls and gave them each a hug, reminding how that would have been me if I saw her in a restaurant or some other public place. I would have freaked out a lot more though. She was the one that made me happy when no one else really noticed. She was my friend, and she felt as if she could be my best friend. She saved my life once, and I've always been grateful for her, so I understood the girls completely.
It seemed like forever, but the girls finally said goodbye and went on their way, leaving me with a smiling Gabbie.
"Damn, they were so sweet, and look! One of them got me this shirt!" she exclaimed, pointing at her chest.
I gazed up and took a quick look at her shirt. It was a Pokémon shirt. She had so many of those, but she seemed so excited about it, so it made me happy as well.
"Adorable," I said. "Looks like our pizza is on its way over here now."
She quickly dropped next to me and began to make room for the dish, nudging at me to help her. I started pushing a few things out of the way, and the waiter showed up right next to our table.
"Here you are ladies," he said as he put the pizza down. "Say, Gabbie, I know you're a YouTuber and a Viner. Care to help me out?"
Gabbie rolled her eyes and angrily replied, "Please, I do not want to help you out. I'm nowhere near the top of anything, so you would get nowhere with me. Don't you believe that was kind of inconsiderate to ask me while
I'm out to lunch with a friend?"
The waiter took a small step back and sighed, "I'm so sorry. Enjoy your lunch."
I tapped the waiter and gave him a slip of paper, apologising for Gabbie's sudden outburst and saying if he wanted me to listen to his music, I was up for it even though it would get him absolutely nowhere.
He smiled and quickly walked away, giving us a small wave.
"Gabbie, you just can't be rude like that. Yes, it was rude of him to say that, but there was no need for any of that," I told her.
She nodded, answering, "You're right. I'm sorry. Now, this looks pretty good, and I'm hungry, so let's eat!"
I smiled and shook my head. No one could ever get between Gabbie and her pizza, and I found that quite funny.
Gabbie finished her second slice a little after I finished mine, and she took a look at my plate and then back up at me.
"You eat hella fast. Damn," she said.
"Well, when you have a father who was once in the Marines and eats fast, you're going to learn it from somewhere," I laughed. "It comes in handy too because then I don't have to be in crowded restaurants for a long amount of time."
"It's not even that crowded anymore, so I think we will be alright for now. Say, want to leave so we can get set up?"
"We didn't even-" I tried to say before she cut me off.
"I know. We don't have to. I already paid. Let's go."
We got up and waved to our waiter who was across the restaurant.
"Have a wonderful day, girls!" he yelled out to us as we left.
I was right. That was some weird first date, but it still wasn't. I guess I'll never know what exactly that was.
