It was five am, and I was laying on the couch in Gabbie's office, watching her sit at her desk and do nothing. She's been just sitting there for hours. She was silent, and her hands were carefully placed over her keyboard. She wasn't typing anything, but she was fidgeting with the keys.
I tried to tell her to go to bed because it was all going to be okay, but she ignored me. I tried to get her up, but once I got her up onto her feet, she would fall right back into her office chair.
Zane messed her up. I've never seen her this way, but then again, I haven't lived with her for a month yet.
Even if he was drunk, he had no right to lay his hands on her. No one has the right to lay their hands on anyone.
I heard Gabbie sigh. "I think I'm ready for bed."
I quickly sprung up and went over to her, offering my hand for her to grab, but she denied it. She got up from her chair and began to stumble to her room. I hurried and ran to her door and opened it for her. She just looked at me and walked into her room.
I saw her fall onto her bed face first as she began to scream and cry into a pillow.
"Um," I said. "Do you want me to stay in here with you?"
Gabbie quickly sat up and glared at me. "Fuck off."
That was the first thing I heard from her since last night, so I agreed and left, shutting the door behind me.
Now, I had to make the choice to either stay here with Gabbie, or go or to Zane's and beat the shit of him. I couldn't just leave her because I was scared for her. I shook the thought away and went into the kitchen to prepare Gabbie some food to try and help her feel a bit better.
There wasn't really much in her house since the last time she went shopping was about two weeks ago. She had some bread sitting on the counter, so I decided to pull two pieces out and pop them into the toaster for a few minutes. I went to her fridge and tried to search for some jam or even butter. After a minute or two of scavenging for some, I quickly found some in the back of the fridge. I pulled it out and set it on the counter, listening as the fridge door slammed shut.
The toaster was done, and the bread shot out. I quickly grabbed them as the bread was still hot to the touch. I held them in my hand, realising that I had forgotten to grab a plate. I ripped a paper towel off her paper towel roll that was sitting next to her toaster, and I quickly placed the toast onto it.
I grabbed out a knife to spread the jam and a plate so I would seem tacky giving her food on a paper towel. I opened the jam and quickly spread it evenly amongst two pieces.
I picked up the plate from the counter and made my way to Gabbie's room. It was awfully quiet as I walked in that direction. It gave me a weird vibe, but maybe she was finally sleeping. She needed it after all.
I knocked on her door and waited for an answer. None. I knocked again, and still, no answer. This worried me, so I slammed open the door, seeing Gabbie laying on her bed, her sheets stained with a dark red puddle.
I dropped the plate to the ground, hearing it shatter as I ran towards her. I pulled Gabbie against my chest and began patting her cheek to try and wake her.
My tears quickly began falling from my eyes and right onto her forehead.
I screamed, "Gabbie! Wake up, baby! Wake up, please!"
There was no response, so I quickly grabbed out her phone from her nightstand, pressing the emergency button.
"Stay with me..." I whispered to her as the police answered.
"Oh, um, yes, hello! My friend tried to commit suicide. She's bleeding everywhere, and she won't wake up! Can you hurry, please? I need her!"
The police said something on the other end, and I just yelled my address at them and hung up.
I went to feel for Gabbie's pulse. Thank God it was still there, but it wasn't right. It was slowing down. She couldn't leave me. Not like this!
I went in search for the spot the blood was coming for, and, of course, it was her wrist. I looked around for something that could ease the bleeding just a bit. I couldn't find a thing, so I just pulled off my shirt and wrapped it around her wrist as tightly as I could.
I heard a slamming noise and instantly knew it was the paramedics.
"Stay with me," I muttered as I got up and ran for the door.
I swung it open and four paramedics rushed by my side and right into Gabbie's room. They were saying a bunch of stuff, and all I did was fall onto to the floor. I began to sob. I'm going to lose her.
