The Arena

Pixel woke up before the sun was anywhere near up. She had had enough trouble sleeping last night,so she figured there wasn't any harm in getting up early anyways. Pixel walked out of her room and was immediately greeted with an Avox. The Avox was holding different colored shirts,all the same design,along with a white windbreaker,a pair of dark blue jeans,and a pair of black winter boots.
"Are these my clothes for the Games?" Pixel asked. The Avox nodded. Pixel looked at the different colored shirts. "Do I get to choose which color shirt I get to were?" Pixel asked. The Avox nodded again. "Okay,". Pixel walked back into her room. The Avox followed. She laid the clothes on Pixel's bed. Pixel looked through the shirts. She found a dark turquoise one with dark red lining. Perfect. "This one will do," Pixel said,holding up the shirt. The Acox nodded and gathered up the other shirts. "Thank you," Pixel said as the Avox headed toward the door. The Avox paused and turned around. She smiled and nodded,then left the room. Pixel quickly got dressed and went out to the kitchen. Before long,Dell was out there too. He wore almost the exact same outfit as she did,except his shirt was a dark green color.
   "You ready?" he asked. Pixel sighed.
   "Ready as I'll ever be," she said. The two waited until their teams along with Rilanna and Bellina came in. They said there goodbyes then headed to the roof. A helicopter was waiting there for them. Dell and Pixel linked hands as they grabbed the rungs of a ladder together. The ladder froze their bodies as they were pulled up to the helicopter. Pixel watched as the ground shrunk below her. This may as well be the last time she'll feel close to freedom. Once they were in the helicopter,a worker injected something into Dell's and Pixel's wrist. He explained that it was a tracker. Yeah. Wouldn't want to lose a tribute. Then Dell and Pixel were unfrozen. The two sat together the whole ride, hugging each other while they could. The room went dark as they approached the arena.
   "Ready?" Dell asked.
   "As long as you're with me," Pixel whispered in response. The two were separated once the copter landed. Pixel waited in her tube,ready to be sent up. "I love you Gig,take care of Dad," Pixel whispered. The tube closed around her and Pixel began moving upward. She closed her eyes,waiting for her to reach the outside. Once she opened them,she saw the landscape. Beautiful thick birch trees surrounded the snow covered landscape. Pixel looked around and saw Dell,a few tributes over. They locked eyes and Dell pointed at something. Pixel looked and saw it. Two diamond axes by a belt of daggers and a golden bow and quiver. Pixel looked back at Dell.
"Go for it?" he asked in sign language.
"Go for it," Pixel signed back. Pixel looked around the arena while the counter was running. She saw Silver on the other side,ready to run towards the cornucopia. Silver and Pixel locked eyes. Pixel motioned toward the trees. Silver got the message and nodded back. Pixel smiled,ready for the Games. The counter was almost out. 10...9...8...7...6...5...4... Pixel got ready to run as fast as she could. 3...2...1... Pixel bolted off her stand as the cannon fired. Dell was quickly beside her. They rushed towards the weapons. Dell grabbed the axes and Pixel grabbed the dagger belt,bow,and quiver. Pixel put the belt on and bow and quiver around her back as she ran. There was a shout as a sword flew by Pixel's head. Pixel looked over her shoulder,still running. Lux was chasing after them,two swords drawn,killing anyone in his path. He was gaining on them fast. He suddenly stopped as a silver dagger flew through his chest. He fell to the ground,blood pouring out of the wound.
   "Run!!" Silver shouted at them. Pixel nodded and went into overdrive,running faster than she ever had before. A spear flew in between Dell and Pixel. They turned around to see Satin running after them. Pixel's eyes widened as she closed in. Dell grabbed Pixel's hand and forced her to keep running. Pixel watched Satin over her shoulder as Dell pulled her forward. A silver sword protruded through Satin and she crashed to the ground. "Boom goes the cannon," Silver whispered. "Don't touch my friends,". Dell and Pixel continued running until they reached a tree. They quickly climbed as high as they dared,which was about eighty feet. They watched as several people lay dead or dying,along with those who were fleeing into the surrounding woods. Pixel could make out Moccasin and Scotty by the cornucopia. Karambit and Silver were fighting off the last tributes. Pixel gagged at the sight of all the blood. It was just terrible! But,she guessed that was the cost of survival. Sacrifice.
   "You okay Pix?" Dell asked.
   "Yeah," Pixel said quietly. "I'll be okay,". Dell flapped his wings a little. Pixel jumped as cannons began to fire. All those dead tributes. Wow. So many laid dead in front of her. It was like a horror seen. This was like an unending nightmare. There was a rustling near the trees as Atom appeared. Silver and the others immediately reacted,not knowing it was Atom. Pixel rushed from tree to tree until she jumped in front of Atom.
   "It's just Atom!" she said to the others. They automatically stopped and apologized to Atom. Dell flew down to where they were.
   "Now what?" he asked as they regrouped inside the cornucopia. "Do we just wait?" 
   "We survive," Silver said. "And figure a way out of here,". They all sat in silence until Atom broke it.
   "They killed Addeline," he said. "Lux did,". He looked up at Silver. "Thanks for avenging her,". Silver smiled softly.
   "No one hurts my friends," she said simply. The friends seemed to relax a bit after that. They gathered all the supplies in the cornucopia and around it. They rationed all of the food. They talked strategies as well. The sound of the Capitol anthem cut off their conversation. They all went outside and looked into the sky where a screen was projected. It then went on to show the tributes that had died along with their district. Lux,Satin,both from six,seven,nine,the girl from eleven,the boy from twelve,and then Addeline.
   "That means there's us, District five,ten,the boy from eleven,the girl from twelve,and Dill and Aria," Karambit said as they sat outside.
   "We should go find Aria and Dill tomorrow," Silver said. The others agreed.
   "I can only imagine the commentary tonight," Scotty said. The others laughed.
   "And it appears that the Careers have teamed up with District three and the boy from eleven! What a twist!" Dell said,mocking the Capitol's funny accent. The group cracked jokes far into the night until they were to tired to do it anymore.
   "Should someone keep watch?" Pixel asked as they went inside the corn to sleep.
   "Nah. Who would attack us anyways?" Silver said. Pixel shrugged as she lay down.
   "Besides,I'll know they're coming when they're a mile away," Karambit said.
   "How?" Atom asked.
   "You guys aren't the only ones with weird abilities," she said. Everyone settled down and eventually fell asleep. Pixel was somehow able to sleep soundly. Maybe the thought of her new friends made her feel safe. Or maybe it was the thought that they might actually make it out of this,all of them,alive.
