They started their journey at midnight as planned. They followed the map as much as they could. Through the rain the group traveled up and down hills, weaved through trees, and waded through rivers. They walked in silence as they traveled through the drenched woods. Dell and Pixel kept everyone as warm as they could with their fire.
"We're close," Pixel said suddenly.
"How can you tell?" Silver questioned.
"Because of that," Pixel explained as she pointed toward the burning trees in the not-so-far distance.
"Okay, remember the plan," Kara stated.
"Remember your teams," Sil added. The others nodded.
"Pix, Atom, Aria, Moccasin, and I go for the main cannon," Dell recounted.
"Right," Silver said bitterly, pros sibyl wishing Karambit had put Dell on the fighting team.
"The rest of us, Sil, Scotty, Dil, and I go take down this final tribute," Karambit said. They walked into the blazing fires. They heard grunts and shouts of fury not far off to their left. From their right fired a giant ball of flames.
"Ready? Break!" Silver shouted. The group split and rushed in different directions. Dell tucked the map in his bookbag as he ran.
"There!" Pixel yelled through the haze. She pointed to a gigantic cannon-like structure. "Dell, are you sure about this?" she questioned out of concern.
"Positive!" Dell shouted over the roar of the flames. He tossed Moccasin his bookbag, spread his wings, and shot into the sky. The cannon immediately reacted to his movement and followed after him, firing fire in his direction.
The rest of the team went to work on the cannon. Aria and Moccasin rushed into the woods to keep watch while Atom and Pixel jumped onto the cannon. The thing seemed to not feel weight so it stayed focused on Dell. Atom and Pixel faced each other on the cannon, Atom sitting with his back to the fire-spitting side. Together the two undid the panel on the cannon and worked swiftly on the wires. The connected wires here and there, their fingers working faster than ever before.
"There!" Pixel and Atom exclaimed in unison. The cannon froze and shuddered. Then it came to a halt. Atom jumped off the cannon, now holding a makeshift remote. Pixel jumped down as Moccasin and Aroa came out of the woods. Atom put his free hand fingers to his lips and whistled loud and long. They waited about a minute, then a similar whistled followed. Dell landed on the ground, now knowing it was safe.
The groups met at the center where they started.
"Ready?" Silver asked.
"As we'll ever be," Pixel responded.
"Fire away," Sil said, nodding at Atom. He nodded. He pressed a button on the remote and the whirring of gears echoed through the forest. "By the way, we took out most of the cameras around here. Figured we'd leave those that couldn't view us," Silver added. Pixel nodded.
An orange ball of flames burst through the wall. Everyone's hair stood on end.
"Let's get out of this hell hole," Kara said as the shield melted around them. The group rushed outside, now free. One my one, using Silver's daggers, they took the chips out of themselves and bandaged the wound from where they had been.
Pixel turned around and faced a remaining camera. She kissed her middle three fingers and held it up for the camera to see. She let out a four note whistle, saying goodbye to the horrible place.
"Silver, will you do the honors?" Pixel inquired as she watched the camera intently.
"With pleasure," Sil said, seeing the camera. She expertly threw her dagge like a boomerang. The danger hit the camera, disabling it, and soared back into Silver's hand. She grasped the hilt and smiled. "Sianara suckers!" she shouted. With that, te group rushed into the barren wasteland in front of them, ready for anything.
