Chapter 17- Who'd Ever Though Corn Mazes Were Dangerous

The November sun slowly faded down the sky as Ella, Jasper and his brothers walked beside a corn field, Iggy had found a while back. He wanted to explore it so he brought the rest if the gang to check it out for themselves. That was Iggy's second biggest mistake.

All five if them parted the tall corn stalks as the stars started to appear on the night sky. The light dimmed as Iggy said, "I saw this really cool scarecrow over here's now where was it..."

Just then a gust of wind past them, making Ella a little suspicious. Out of the corner of her eye a figure raced by causing her to gasp."what is it?" Jasper asked.

Ella paused then shook her head. "Nothing. It's nothing." Jasper nodded and pressed forward when a loud, un-human shriek stopped them. "What was that!" Jasper gasped.

"It sounded like Quincey's stomach" Iggy grinned. "Ha ha" Quincey said rolling his eyes. Just then a cold wind zoomed over their heads.

Suddenly, three strange, black monsters shot down from the sky onto the ground in front of Ella. She yelped and scrambled back as the edged towards her. "Shadow Monsters!"

Jasper and his brothers charged at the monsters, only to find that they went right through them. Ella gulped them took of racing through the corn.

She breathed heavily, pushing aside the corn stalks as the monsters chased her. This is bad, Ella thought. Why are they after me? Questions buzzed in Ella's head when she tripped and fell face flat in the dirt.

Ella gasp and quickly got up as the Shadow Monsters closed in in her. While running, she turned back and pointed her finger at them causing a bright green spark to shoot from her finger tip and vaporize the first monster.

She smiled and sped up then shot another monster. That left the third monster angry. Ella aimed her finger at the monster, but missed. Ella gulped as the Shadow Monster lunged at her, grappling into her ankle. While screaming, she used all her magic to shoot the monster.

As it vaporized into the night sky Ella took a shaky breath and laid down on the ground, exhausted from running and using so much power.

Just as Ella was slowly her racing heart beat the corn stalks rustled as something emerged from it. Ella screamed as Jasper and his brothers came onto view.

Ella grabbed her chest as Jasper ran over to her and put his arms around her. "Why were those things after me!" Ella cried hugging Jasper's body for dear life. Her little body trembled from shock and he lifted her up and said, "lets get home."

Ella squirmed on the old mattress, suffering from a nightmare. One of the many nightmares she's been experiencing since Halloween. Ella couldn't quiet make them out. All she knew was it ended with her dissolving in a fiery scream as the darkness closed in on her.

She gasped and opened her eyes to find herself covered in cold sweat. Jasper and his brother sat above Ella, helping her sit up. "It's okay, Ella. We're here" Jasper said brushing her black hair out of her face.

Ella sighed as tears fell down her face. "Why is this happening to me? What's chasing me? Something's out there, and it want me. I can feel it."

Jasper hugged Ella and said, "it's alright. We're not going to let anything hurt you. Never." Ella sobbed and squeezed Jasper tightly when Axe talked on his shoulder.

Ella and Jasper turned to Axe who held Ella's fairy tale book she got for her birthday. "Oh! A good story will cheer you up" Quincey grinned. Ella nodded as all five of them snuggled next to Ella and opened the book. Just then Jasper and his brothers frowned. "What's wrong" Ella asked. Jasper blushed and said, "I can't remember how to read."

Ella smiled and said, "I'll read." Ella sat the book in front of her and began to read Little Boy Blue to the zombies.

By the time the story was over she was half asleep. Jasper smiled and tucked her into bed with his brothers then left her to her dreams. Or nightmares.
