Chapter 19- The Mysterious Woman And The Graveyard Keeper
Ella put her black hair into a pony tail no took of her glasses, carefully putting the the magic contacts instead. She always changed her look when going in public.
As Ella slipped into a large jacket Jasper had given her, he walked into her room saying, "so were exactly are you going?" Ella rolled up the long sleeves and said, "I'm going to the city library to find some more information on those creatures that attacked us in the cornfield.
Jasper sighed and folded his arms. "Okay. Just be back before six and no talking to strangers-." Ella giggled and said, "now your sounding like an older brother." Jasper gave her a soft smile and ruffled her hair. "Just be careful kiddo."
Ella nodded and headed though the sewers hallways to the latter that lead to the manhole she was looking for. Quickly, she climbed the latter soon reaching the surface. She slowly lifted the manhole finding herself behind a tree.
Ella scrambled out of the hole before anyone could see her. As she closed it the lights of main street starting lighting up. Ella stood up and put her hands in the hoodies pocket while walking down the street looking normal as everyone else around her.
The lights from the skyscrapers down town could be seen from where Ella stood. She smiled as the neon lights from the Arby's across the street bursted to life. Soon the whole town would be a neon light paradise.
Ella snuggled her face in the hoodie keeping warm when to her left a large museum building appeared from behind all the trees. Quickly, Ella ran into the library before her freckles could freeze off.
Ah, the library. Ella loves all the libraries. She does have a particular liking for this one because it smells like new books instead of tuna sandwiches.
Enjoying he silence and warmth, Ella made her way to the very back of the library where a secret door sat, only for those who know about magic. Inside is a library just for them. They do that to avoid mortals reading the books.
Ella slipped inside only seeing a few people inside the large room. Dim lights that floated around the room brightened up the place as Ella scanned the long book shelves for books on Shadow Monsters. A couple books caught her eye.
As Ella carried the stack of books to a vacant table some people glared at her as if trying to remember something. Ella pushed the staring away through as she began to read.
Nothing particular caught her eye, but she didn't find some rather disturbing injuries one can get from a Shadow Monster. Ella gulped and turned the page finding some spells that can ward of the nasty things, but not a spell to kill them.
It was final. Those things could not be killed. Only chased away. That got Ella frustrated. To make her day even more bad was Ella got these creepy chills that someone, or something was watching her.
Trying not to cause attention, Ella glanced around the room seeing a figure dash behind a bookshelf. Suddenly, Ella's head throbbed as a voice over lapping another voice screamed. She touched her head as a woman's voice called out her name over and over again.
Why is this voice so familiar, Ella thought as the voice kept calling out her name. The noise suddenly stopped relieving Ella of the pain. It almost felt as someone had pulled a thorn out of her thumb.
Ella took a deep breath, deciding it was time to go home. She closed the books at put them back in the book shelf then headed out of the library into the freezing cold.
As Ella stepped onto the busy sidewalk, crowds of people passed by. She watched them walk past her when a bus approached a bus stopped beside her.
The bus stopped as people loaded on and off. A minute passed as Ella walked past the bus. Just as Ella looked at the bus a woman across the street caught her eye.
She was fairly young and beautiful. Ella stopped and looked at her when the bus started to drive, blocking her view of the mysterious woman.
When the bus was gone, so was the woman. As if she just vanished with the bus. Ella frowned then began to walk, avoiding eye contact with anyone.
A decorative gate came into view, which was Ella's way home. She passed through the gate into the cometary getting the feeling once again, that someone or something is watching her. Ella paused then looked around her only seeing dying trees and headstones.
Shrugging off the feeling, Ella continued her way home when a little shack appeared in the distance. That is where the graveyards keeper lives. Ella remembers Jasper and his brothers telling her about the graveyards keeper. "She's a lunatic" said Quincey. "Completely bonkers!"
Jasper told her that the lady was named Ingrid, and she was about thirty. Ingrid lives with five cats and talks to them as if they were her closet friends, which they probably were.
"Ingrid's pretty nice. Or so I think. Never really talked to her since I'm a zombie. But I assume she's nice. A bit of a dreamer though. She has a tree in her backyard that has a bunch of bottles dangling from it. And she's got a billion dream catchers on her back porch. It's like she thinks there's evil spirits waiting on her lawn to take her soul or something" Jasper told Ella a while back.
Just then, the door to Ingrid house opened and a woman walked out lighting some candles on her porch. Ella assumed that was Ingrid. From what Ella could see, she had brown hair with hints of white in them. Her hair is also streaked blue.
Ingrid wore large dream catcher earring and a tie dye shirt with ripped jeans. Ella could faintly hear her yell something at her cats then watched her go back into the tiny house.
Ella sighed and kept walking when a man came into view. She assumed he came to visit a grave and was no threat to her. Ella thought wrong though.
He stopped in his steps with wide eyes then pointing to Ella. "Y-your that girl! That girl who the zombies attacked a while back!" Ella gulped and said, "what? Zombies aren't real?"
The man quickly pulled out his phone and dialed something in. This isn't good, Ella thought. Quickly, she dashed lasted the man who watched her with frightened eyes.
As soon as the man was far enough away Ella ran to Jasper's grave when out of her eye a dark shadow crept behind her. Ella gasped as a Shadow Monster jumped into her.
Ella screamed and zapped the monster with her magic. It vaporized leaving Ella confused. Why do they keep attacking me? Ella thought to herself.
Luckily, there was only one monster, but that was the lets of her worries when two men ran towards her. Ella gasped and scrambled away when she tripped and the men cornered her against a large tree.
Ella knew she was in big trouble when the same man as before and a new man pulled out a gun and pointed it at Ella with their finger on the triggers.
