HEADCANON AT TOP
It was a beautiful day, perfectly stereotypical. The sun was shining in a way that wasn't too overbearing and a nice breeze ruffled the leaves of trees that were a great source of shade. A lake with enticing blue water laid to the left of a humongous field of flowers, which had flora of all different colors and types.
The di Angelo-Jacksons set up the picnic blanket underneath the shade of a huge tree. Percy placed the basket onto the center of the blanket, and began to gently take out the food, cups, and plates, they had packed for the trip.
He jumped a little when his husband, Nico, came up behind him and wrapped his arms around Percy's torso. "It looks great, Perce," Nico whispered into his ear. Percy sighed and leaned his head back into Nico's chest, stealing a kiss.
The moment was broken by their five-year old daughter, Sally Bianca di Angelo-Jackson, who shouted, "Yucky!" while giggling.
Percy broke off from the kiss with a smile, turning to the child, and said, "Kisses are yucky? So you don't like this?" Percy began attacking the squealing child with peppered kisses all over their face. Sally giggled again and tried to push away from her father to no avail.
Nico watched over the scene fondly while he continued Percy's previous task. When he was done, he called, "Alright you two! Picnic's ready! Are you going to eat, or what?"
The two finally halted their play fighting and went to join Nico; Sally ran ahead, pulling Percy by the hand she held, with her father watching, amused.
They ate their lunches, Sally's bubbly chatter filled the silence. The child had a sandwich and juice box, and the the couple had sandwiches as well, but each had a glass of red wine. They all sweetened up the picnic with the fresh fruit Percy had brought.
The two took a moment of tranquil peace while Sally packed away the remainder of the food, with a look of concentration across her face, green eyes aflame with determination.
Percy had his eyes closed, and his head rested against Nico's shoulder, taking in the peaceful sounds of the nature around them. The wind whispered gently in his ears, caressed his face with feather light touches. The smell of the flowers carried over to them, and mixed with faint scent of Nico's cologne. Percy was happy to take it all in quietly.
The serenity was disrupted by Sally, who triumphantly yelled, "I did it! Papa, are you proud of me?"
Percy felt Nico's body shake softly from his chuckle as he said, "Yes, il mio tesoro, I'm very proud of you."
"Yay! Dad! Come with me!" Percy opened his eyes and chuckled quiet at the demanding tone in his daughter's voice. He stood up and stretched, looking at his husband with a slight pout as he mimed sleeping. Nico snorted and shook his head.
Just as Percy was about to lean in for and kiss, the impatient voice of Sally sounded again, "C'mon, Dad! Hurry up!" Percy straightened and chuckled again, going over to stand next to his daughter.
He was surprised when Sally began dragging him towards the flower field and turned to look at Nico, who waved them off with a hand and picked up the book he had brought. Percy nodded and turned back to see they were close.
Sally carefully danced through the beautiful blooms, letting go of Percy's hand. "Sally, baby, don't go where I can't see you, okay?" Percy said, when her hand disconnected with his. "Okay, Dad," Sally replied, already picking flowers some feet away from him.
Percy began to space out and wandered around the field, stooping to smell a flower or get a closer look at one, making sure he stayed near Sally.
He was broken out of his thoughts by the reappearance of Sally at his side, who held a different variety of flowers in her hands. All different shades, deep red and pale pink, bright yellow and muted blue, burnt orange and sunrise purple, and different types. They were held together sloppily with a red ribbon tied into and bow.
Sally impatiently pushed the bouquet into her surprised father's hands. Percy asked her with a smile, "For me?"
"No, you have to give them to Papa!" The black-haired child said, and started shoving her father towards her other dad.
Nico glanced up from his book to see his husband red-faced, while Sally giggled profusely behind Percy. He looked up fully as Percy handed him a bouquet of freshly picked flowers, and mumbled, "I had to give them to you."
Sally clapped her hands excitedly and hugged Nico, who embraced her back. Percy still sheepishly smiled, and scratched the back of his neck as Nico turned his focus onto him.
"Thanks, mio principe; they're beautiful," Nico laughed softly and leaned up to place a chaste kiss onto Percy's lips.
Percy touched the place with a dopey smile as Nico took a pure white daisy out of the flowers and gently set them down on the picnic blanket. He placed the bloom in Sally's hair and suddenly picked her up and twirled her around.
As Sally's laughter filled the air, blending with the beautiful sounds of the birds' melodious singing, Percy really couldn't think of anywhere else he's rather be and be with.
