The ride back to August's house was quite. I had a lot of explaining to do and I didn't know how I was gonna pull that off.

I was thinking about just moving into another house. I have the money and I still have my job. The only thing that was holding me back was the fear of Jose finding us and hurting us.

The kids were gonna stay home with August all day tomorrow since I have to return to work. Kayden has been uneasy ever since he saw all the bags in the trunk. "Mama?"

"Huh?" I answered, turning my attention to Kayden.

"What's going on?"

I saw the worried look in his eyes which broke my heart into a million pieces. "Well, there's a lot going on right now. The man that came with me to pick y'all up is my ex boyfriend. We are going to be staying with him for a lil while."

"Why?"

"Kay, I need you to understand this the best way you can. You're father is a good person sometimes but then again, he's not. He hits me all of the time and I can't take it anymore. I'm tired of being abused. That environment is not safe at all. I'm sorry to tell you like this but, it's true," I explained.

"I know he's not a good person. I would hear the things he would say to you sometimes. I understand," he said.

After pulling into August's driveway, he helped us get a few bags out of the car and we all went into the house to rest. "Mommy, I'm hungry," Amira said.

"What do you wanna eat?" I asked.

"I want pizza."

"Okay, I'll order pizza in a little bit. Kay, go fix your sister a sandwich until then."

He picked her up and they made their way do the kitchen.

"So, Jala said she'll be back in town in 3 weeks. Then y'all can go stay with her," August said.

"I might have my own place by then but, we'll see."

"I don't think you should go and buy a new house yet. You're forgettin' that that nigga you was with is still crazy as hell. You should just lay low fa a lil while."

"Not to low, I have to go to work in the morning. Would you mind watching the kids?" I asked.

"Ion mind. Asia might though."

I rolled my eyes at the sound of her name. Every time I would try to speak to her, she would give me the cold shoulder. I don't know what August sees in her cause I surely don't see shit. "If she's a problem, I can take them to Zay's house."  Zay has been blowing my phone up ever since I told him what happened. He thinks we should stay with him but, he lives in a one bedroom apartment.

"You still in touch with him? Damn, I thought I was the only one," August said.

I nodded. "I can't thank you enough August. Like for real, thank you."

He kissed my temple and put a blanket over me. "Go ahead and get ya some rest. I'll look out fa the kids," he said.

I chuckled a bit. "Are you sure?"
