I woke up ta my phone vibratin' next to me. Miss Stevens's name appeared across the screen. I slid the bar ova and placed the phone ta my ear. "Hello?"

"August, Mercedes needs you," Miss Stevens said with a voice full of sorrow. My heart dropped because I didn't know what she meant by those words. She then started cryin'. "I'm on my way," I said, hangin' up the phone afterwards. I tapped Roni.

"What Auggy?" she said with a voice full of sleep.

"We have ta go ta the hospital," I said, throwing on my t-shirt.

We remained silent as we waited for the elevator ta reach our floor. I was tryin' to contain myself as best as I could but, this was slowly eatin' me alive. I didn't believe that Mercedes was okay. I had ta see it fa myself.

Afta what felt like years, the elevator doors opened and we stepped out. Devronica grabbed my hand, causin' me ta stop. "Whatever happens, or has happened.. I just want you to know that I love you," she said.

I crashed my lips into hers, leavin' small pecks afterwards. "I luh you more," I said.

We arrived to their room and I saw Miss Stevens with her head in her hands, cryin'. I walked ova ta her and placed my hand on her shoulder. She looked at me with bloodshot red eyes. "Is Mercedes okay?" I asked.

Her eyes once again filled with tears. "August-,"

"Is she okay?" I asked, my voice gettin' louder. I looked ova at the curtain and started ta walk towards it.

"August don't go in there," Miss Stevens yelled.

I ignored her and pulled back the curtain, revealing Mercedes. I walked up to her and took a sigh of relief. I thought she was gone. A doctor came in and walked up ta Miss Stevens. "Ma'am, can you sign these papers so we can transport her body?" he asked. My heart shattered into a million pieces because I knew exactly what he meant. The woman who I loved so much was now gone. I walked ova ta him, screamin'.

"So you jus wasn't gon tell me she died?!" I yelled, my voice full of anger.

"August, calm down," Roni said, holdin' down my arms.

I jerked away from her and went back ta where Mercedes was. I held her and cried on her chest. I loved this girl so much even afta everything she did ta me, I still had so much love fa her.

I watched as August took off his shirt and got into bed. He looked devastated and I felt bad for him. He looked at me and stared. "Baby, are you okay?" His eyes immediately filled with tears and he put his head on my chest ...and cried.

"I love you," August said.

"I love you, too."

"What's gon happen with my daughter?"

"She can come to live with you, and I can help you take care of her. You're not in this alone babe," I said.

"Thank you," he said, holding me tighter.

I just couldn't shake how he was acting in the hospital. He seemed so upset by the situation and it made me feel horrible. I knew he had love for the girl but o didn't know it was that deep.

August's snoring pulled me out of my thoughts and my phone vibrated on the table. I had a message from Jelani. What does this lil hoe want?

Jelani: hey, I have news
What makes you think I care?
Jelani: I just wanna talk to you. I'm in LA

My eyes got big at the last message she sent. Why would she be down here?

Girl, I don't want any dealings with you. Get your life together. I don't know what you're down here for but, whatever it is...oh well.

I tossed my phone at the end of the bed and snuggled closer to August.

Jelani really had me fucked up.
