August and Roni on FaceTime in MM

Devronica

I watched August put the last of our bags in the car, and hugged Miss Chelsea. "I'm going to miss you. Next time we come, I'll be sure to bring you some scarves."

"I would love that darlin'. I'll have somethin' cookin' when August brings ya back. Y'all stay safe!"

August hugged his grandmother goodbye, and we got into the car. His cousin offered to bring us to the airport since Miss Chelsea couldn't. "I'm so excited. We're finally going back home," I said, grabbing August's hand.

"Yeah, me too. What we need ta do is figure out how we gon see each otha'. It's summa right na but, what about when school start? We go ta two different schools, and I'm not zoned ta go ta yo school."

I nodded. He was right about that. He lived on the other side of Lafayette, and I'm pretty sure he isn't moving anytime soon. "I see where you're coming from. School doesn't start back up for a while though so, we don't have to worry about it right now."

"Yeah. I jus was thinkin' ahead."

"How long y'all been together? Y'all my goals or whatever," August's cousin, Q, asked.

August tugged on his chin hair. "Technically a month and like a week or two but, we made it really official the otha' day," he answered.

"Oh, y'all cute. I remember his old girlfriend. Man, she was a fuck up," Q said, laughing.

"Can we not talk about ha' while my girl in the car?"

"It's fine. I don't care if y'all talk about her. How was she a fuck up?" Honestly, I just wanted to know more about this Mercedes girl.

"When she came down here, our grandmo made some food, and she was to bougie to eat it. She told momo that Aug was jus gon take her out to eat lata'. Man, what momo didn't  tell her. I was laughin' my ass off at dat table."

I imagined Miss Chelsea telling Mercedes off and began to laugh. "What Miss Chelsea said?"

"Don't tell ha'. She gon fall out the car
laughin'," Aug said.

I laid my head on August's lap, and eventually fell asleep.

I woke up to August playing in my ear. "Stop, I know you see me sleeping," I said, slightly agitated. I hate when people wake me up.

"I see but, you getting up na. You need ta get rid of dat attitude too. We at the airport," he said.

I sat up, and looked around. Yep, we were definitely at the airport.

We hugged Q goodbye, and made our way to our gate.

We sat in first class, and picked our seats. "I wanna sleep the whole plane ride."

"Nah, I can't allow you ta go ta sleep on me," August said, kissing my cheek.

Blushing, I kissed him. "Then I'm not going to."

He played in the curls that formed in my head from the braid he did previously. My hair is naturally that way but, it looked even better. "Look at dat hair man. I worked wonders fa you."

"My hair is naturally like this, lil ugly."

He looked around the plane. "You ain't talkin' ta me. You kno' damn well I'm cute," he said, playfully.

"Yeah, you're cute or whatever," I said, laughing.

"I kno'. You too, lil baybeh."

"This plane ride shall be fun."
