I walk, well more like limp, out of the ballroom to go to the vendors to buy more white tape and the camera crew comes and follows me. In the craziness of the day I've completely forgotten about the movie! At least they're getting real footage of what I'm like...
I'm super nervous for recalls. My heavies were really good but lights.... I hope I make it in. They don't want me to dance my set though. But I have to. Withdrawing and seeing all my friends up there would really suck... Especially after all the work I put in.
At this point it could be anyone's game... I think it's going to be a toss up between Lucy, Isabel and Ava. I know they all want it really bad, but I want Ava to get it.
She told me last night in the elevator going back to the hotel about all the pressure her parents, teachers and friends have put on her to win the worlds again. It seems stressful being a world champion! She also told me how's she's a mega perfectionist and she doesn't want to let anyone down. It seems like she's her harshest critic. Like I've gotten snapchats from her at like 12:30 at night her time of her in her practice room. That girl wants it so bad. She also said how most people are rooting against her because she's won so much and that makes me feel bad... If she's mentally breaking down to me, a stranger she barely knows, in an elevator at 10:00pm about all of that, you know it's bad... She just wants to be liked but everyone wants to see her fail... It's not fair to her after working so hard to get where she is today...
I'm snapped out of my thoughts by almost running into Violet!
"Hey Vi!" I say. "You looked really good today!"
"Really? My sister said I looked like crap..."
"No you looked amazing! I'm so jealous of your lift in everything!"
"Well I'm so jealous of your rhythm! Your jig steps were insane! But how's your foot?"
"It really hurts but I'm doing set if I recall."
"You will... But won't that hurt it more?"
"Yeah probably..." And we both laugh. "But I've already done two rounds so let's just get in the placements now..."
"True..." Then her phone goes off. "My mom just texted me and said recalls are being announced in 5 minutes... we should go back in."
"Yeah I just have to buy some tape. I'll be in there in a second!"
"Okay bye! Good luck!"
"You too!"
I go over to the vendor and pay for two rolls of tape then I walk-limp as fast as I can back into the ballroom. I sit down back in my seat and we wait for them to start.
"I have the recalled dancers in competition 13 ready to be announced." Finally! It's been 3 hours since the round finished! A hush falls over the auditorium and the hurried flipping of pages fills the silence.
"In numerical order... 103... 105..." Isabel Recalled, but that's not surprising.
"... 112... 117... 120..." Theres Adelaide... I'm absent mindly circling the numbers until it comes to someone that I know.
"... 136... 140... 142..." Yay Vi! I've gotten really close to her too!
"...186... 192... 193..." Surprise! The world champion recalled! I know she was still probably super nervous though...
"... 195... 199... 200... 203..." Yep, Lucy made it. Now we're in the 200s and it's getting closer to my number!
"... 207...213...219... 222..." Taylor's recalled, now it's just me...
"...223... 231... 235... 243..." Ahh why is this taking so long!
"... 246... 250... 251..." Then the announce pauses. I hear the paper rustling and him talking to another person.
"I'm sorry everyone but the second page of the recalls has been misplaced, we are going to get another one so please hang tight."
Of course the lose it when the last girl was 5 numbers away from me...
After waiting for what seems for an eternity but was only 7 minutes according to mom they come back.
"We have the rest of the results now. 254... 256..." Yes I did it! I recalled! I'm so happy!
"... 258... 262... 267... 276... 279 and 281. This round will commence in 30 minute starting on competitor 130."
I'm not at the beginning of the round so I have more time to stretch and rest my foot. I hope it isn't a mistake dancing on it...
