The Dance

What was going on? Who were those strange girls? What was going on? Why do I always have so many questions?! Since Alex left me for those girls, I was kind of lost. The small camp ground was filled with people and since the darkness fully enveloped the place, a gigantic fire was put right in the middle of camp grounds. I went to the only guy I liked enough to bother with my stupid questions, (except for Alex, which really wasn’t my decision because he was the one who dragged me to the tree to talk...never mind.) I went to see Steven.

The problem was that Steven was hunched up with a whole bunch of guys. Holding what looked like musical instruments. They weren’t instruments I knew of... but they resembled the old ones at the museum. Just not quite. Before I could even reach Steven, a boy grabbed my hand and asked me to dance. He had auburn hair and an amazing eyes that looked more purple than blue. He was taller than me, and appeared to be older too. I was just about to ask him what the heck we would dance to, but the boys started playing their instruments.

The music was catchy, and was fit to dance with. It reminded me of something you would square dance to. I was about to decline saying I didn’t dance when he quickly began to turn me around, His steps were firm, yet gentle and before I knew it, I was dancing along with him. I caught it really quickly which surprised me because I was never good at dancing. I decided to go with it and I added my own little swing, which surprisingly made me look even better than the man I was dancing with. Not soon after another gentleman, this one closer to my age, asked to dance with me. I gladly excepted.

It didn’t take long before a whole bunch of boys were asking to dance with me. I was incredibly tired but I loved every minute of it. I saw that Alex had a line of his own and smiled. He didn’t seem to be that into dancing. I was surprised because it seemed like something that he would enjoy. Maybe he was tired. I sure was. I decided to just sit down for a little and watch the others go at it. As I looked around the camp site i noticed that Alex was staring at me. What was with this dude? I waved at him and he seemed to blush. He then said something to his partner, a fiery redhead with a pink dress. And he started walking towards me. Oh crap.

I sat there wondering why he was coming here. I crossed my legs and put on my ‘what makes you think I give a damn’ face. A face I have used a lot recently. When Alex finally reached me, he just stood there and stared

. “Take a picture, it’ll definitely last longer.” I said, not exactly annoyed but trying to sound that way.

He looked at me with a confused expression, “A what?” I was right; they didn’t have modern technology here. “Never mind, why do you keep staring at me? It is creeping me out dude.” He looked at me in a dazed kind of way, “I’m sorry, you are just so... well... do you want to dance?” he blurted out.

I was tired, but one dance wouldn’t hurt anybody. And I missed his strong hands around... wait, what?! I need to get a grip...I sat up and he held my hand pulling me up. It was the end of the last song, and the new one began. I noticed that everyone was trying to get a partner. Oh no, please don’t be a slow song. But it was. Alex laughed a little, then he sighed, “I guess its fate.”

I punched him in the arm, playfully though. ‘Just one dance, I promise that’s all!” He smiled and pulled me closer. I felt electricity run through me. He kind of hugged me, and I leaned into his shoulder a bit hesitant at first, but it didn’t take me long to get use to this. And then we just swayed there.

I closed my eyes and truly listened to the music. It didn’t have any lyrics but it spoke thousands. I quickly stepped back from Alex, he looked at me asking what was wrong. I looked at him for a while and it just came out of me, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry for everything. I’m sorry for going crazy and almost killing you. I’m sorry for the insults. And I’m sorry in advance, because I know that this isn’t the last time I’d do that stuff.” He looked at me again and smiled, smugly. Then something came over me, that same dark cloud that seems to have been controlling me all day, “Don’t go around expecting my sympathy and crap. Just because I’m apologizing doesn’t make us friends.” And then I walked away.

I knew he was calling me to come back, but I just kept walking, until I saw the lake. I quickly drank the water, and put my head in to clean off my face. I was about to dive in but I remembered my necklace. I took it off and felt a slow sinking feeling, making my eyes blurry and my body heavy. Then I found myself on the floor to my flat.
