Sunday morning arrived with haste.
Sunlight stung my eyes and I aroused suddenly.
“Morning, sunshine!” Cyrus said, from the opposite end of the room.
He was already dressed in his satin day-wear and had a plate of steaming bacon and eggs ready for me.
“Today’s study day, remember?”
I blinked my eyes a few times, stretched, and yawned before saying, “Mhm.”
He sat on the bed, placing the warm plate on my lap where I happily devoured my breakfast. Bacon was extremely underrated, I believe. Nothing is better than bacon in the morning.
Once finished, Cyrus took no time to waste in getting started on studying. Plopping the giant packet on my lap, he lifted the covers, only to tuck himself back in.
He put his arm around me, and I hesitantly leaned my head on his shoulder.
From there, we began to study the Society’s handbook.
After an hour or so, I began to wonder why we even bothered studying.
“Won’t we be gone by the time they come to test us?” I questioned.
He shrugged, uncertain himself.
“We’ll know when it’s time to go. It isn’t time yet. I feel like we still have business to attend to here, don’t you?”
I nodded gravely, remembering the gut instinct that I’d been having lately, “That’s true.”
“And even if we are gone by then, we should probably brush up on this anyways. It’ll help us blend in for the mean time.”
“I guess so.” I shrugged.
I snuggled closer. “I’m just eager to get home is all.” I subsided.
“Home?” he asked, turning his head to look at me.
I nodded, staring at a fixed point in the room. “Home.”
“You know, my mom told me of a saying from the Pre-Landies. I’m not sure how she found it, but the saying was ‘home is where the heart is’. I think that’s pretty accurate, don’t you?” he inferred.
“Yes.” I sighed. “Yes I do.”
