As we ran, I noticed how beautiful the scenery around us was.
Just to think that the Society had walled out such a beautiful thing was heart wrenching to bear.
White-topped mountains glittered around us, evergreens growing at their bases. The woods were alive with sounds and animals scurrying throughout, living their little lives.
We ran for hours upon hours. We had no food and no water, which gave us a very limited time span for this journey. We could not stop to sleep, and could barely afford the times that we stopped to catch our breath.
By the time it reached night time, we grew antsy. We heard cars.
Horns honking, sirens wailing throughout the night. We heard people running on foot, and there was a moment where we thought we were going to get caught.
We were running, hand in hand, hoping with all our hearts that nobody would catch us. But with the amount of noises we heard, we felt that would be impossible. There had even been noises in the sky, and when we looked up, there was a flying vehicle zooming over our heads, casting a light upon us. It was lucky for us that we had been under the denseness of the trees.
Suddenly, we heard an engine sound. It was approaching quickly, and even though it seemed impossible, we moved our feet faster underneath us.
Turns out, that was the wrong thing to do, because a vehicle emerged from a large clump of bushes in front of us. Upon seeing us, several men rushed from the car like ants from an ant hill. I was surprised that so many men had fit into it in the first place, but we had no time to be surprised for more than a millisecond. We had to get into a fighting mode.
Cyrus and I had made an agreement, that if we were stopped, we could let no morals hamper us from what we would have to do. Basically, we agreed that if we were caught, we would kill whomever got in our way.
Cyrus seemed to be handy with a gun, and immediately shot the radio that was attached to the innards of the car. That way, they couldn’t call for back up.
At this, several of them shouted.
“I can’t hear any updates.”
“We can’t call for back up!”
Cyrus and I didn’t hesitate to attack, though. We had no time for satisfaction.
I sprung on a small group of men in front of me. For not knowing how to fight, I was pretty good at it.
Well, compared to a bunch of Landies who had vowed to not participate in violence. When I was close enough, I noticed that they all had on bulletproof vests. This meant I would either have to undress them, or I would need to get headshots. The latter seemed more logical, so I fired a shot at the closest HQ official.
I couldn’t bear to look, so I turned around immediately, using the momentum to dropkick the nearest official. Since he was wearing his vest, it didn’t do much, so I followed up with a swift kick in the groin. He collapsed like a rag doll onto the ground.
I turned around to the two left over officials who had been hanging back, sensing my desire for bloodlust.
They stood uneasily, unsure if they should attack.
Their innocence caused me to hesitate, so I shot them each in the foot. With the butt of my gun, I smacked them upside the heads, making sure they were unconscious. We could have no witnesses to our getaway.
Cyrus was firing his gun like there was no tomorrow.
I hit the man who I had kicked in the groin in the head, knocking him unconscious as well.
