Aspen’s brother closed the door with a clang.
She was smiling, easily proud of punching him square in the jaw. Heck, Cyrus was proud of her too, her brother deserved every aspect of that punch.
“That was awesome.” he extolled her.
She ran to Cyrus and jumped on to him, catching him by surprise, but still managing to catch her. She beamed at him, and kissed him passionately. The way she had when they were half naked on the bed, the night before they visited HQ. She gave off an aura, highly resembling the one she did that night, and he knew that it was time.
She wanted him.
Cyrus hastily yanked off his shirt as Aspen was feeling up and down his body, in a way that was driving him wild. Before he knew it, they were nearly naked, tongues dancing playfully in between their mouths. His fingers were tangled in her silky black hair, as hers were tangled in his.
“Aspen?” he asked, with a shaky voice. He took a moment to stabilize his breathing.
“Yes?” she whispered before coming in to kiss him again.
Cyrus put his finger on her lips, beckoning her to pause.
“Before we do this, I need to tell you something.”
He had to tear his sinful eyes from her chest, and looked to her beautiful emerald green eyes. Her hair was now a jet black halo around her face from his fingers, and he brushed it back before saying quietly, “I love you.”
When she had first arrived, he never imagined himself saying that to her, but now he’d been trying to find the right time to say it. And if anytime was a good time, it was then.
He intended to kiss her, and then make passionate love to her, but when he tried to press his lips against hers, she looked away, and he instead kissed her cheek.
“What’s wrong?” he hurriedly asked.
Cyrus’s stomach had a massive case of butterflies, and his heart was beating fast.
“I just, don’t feel that strongly about you Cyrus…” she began to say, “You’re sweet and cute but, I just can’t see myself with you for the rest of forever.”
Cyrus felt like his heart had been ripped into pieces. His chest physically hurt. He wanted to cry, but he was too much of a man for that. Wasn’t he?
“Then what is this?” he gestured to their unclothed body and the straddling position she was in.
For Cyrus, this was his final way to show his love for Aspen. After everything they’d been through, he wanted to be the one to make her feel that way. He wanted to be her one and only. Now and forever.
“Just for fun, Cyrus. I’m going to die… why would I want to die a virgin?” she said snidely, as if it was obvious.
Suddenly, the door opened again. Her brother walked in with a shiny pistol.
“Phase six!” he screamed. He jogged over to us, and shot his sister in the head.
Blood spewed from the exit wound, and Aspen collapsed on Cyrus’s chest. Her blood leaked down his torso and onto the floor, where the flooring soaked it up.
Her black hair was stained with blood, and he couldn’t stand the sight of this. His eyes teared up. He couldn’t hold it in any longer. First, Aspen didn’t love him, and now she was dead in his arms?
Just because Aspen didn’t love him, didn’t mean he didn’t love her.
He gently laid her head on the floor, and performed CPR to the best of his ability. By this time, her brother had walked from the room, and exited.
Cyrus wanted to die.
He knew that Aspen was dead, and nothing could change that. He could see the bullet wound, it went straight through her cranium. There was not coming back from that.
It was as if his worst fears were coming to life.
