*POV Unknown*
I woke up with a major head ache, to the sound of two voices.
‘Admit it, mister kangaroo! You knocked out an innocent girl!’ the first voice said mockingly.
‘Shut up, Frost. I don’t want you around here. It’s Easter tomorrow and I don’t need you to ruin everything again!’ the second voice grumbled. The first one laughed.
I sat up, hoping I was still dreaming and had not really followed a giant bunny. I opened my eyes, to immediately be disappointed. There they were: the bunny and some other guy in a blue hoody. The guy happened to turn around and see me.
‘Hey, look! She’s awake. Time for you to apologize, kangaroo!’ he exclaimed. The bunny took his boomerang out again. I quickly backed away, not feeling the need to be hit in the head with it again. But luckily he only pointed the boomerang at the hoody-guy.
‘I warn you, Frost! Call me kangaroo one more time and you’ll regret it!’ the bunny yelled.
‘Woah, I’m so scared right now,’ the boy, who was apparently called Frost said, again in his mocking voice. ‘Take it easy, kangaroo!’
‘Okay, that’s it!’ the bunny exclaimed. I noticed a large crowd had formed around the two, but not with people, but with the little walking eggs.
There even were a few next to me, even though I had only stepped on one of them before. To my surprise, I recognised even that egg. I was crouching next to me, looking curiously. Well, as far as an egg could look curious of course. The hoody-guy really started to irritate me, and I could easily understand why the bunny would like to slap his across the face, but I had learned violence was never the answer. I had to teach Jamie and Sophie that same rule.
Jamie and Sophie! Oh no! I had to get back to them! Who knew how long they had been alone already. Something could happen!
‘I’m a horrible babysitter,’ I mumbled miserably. Then I spoke up louder.
‘You! Mister hoody-guy! Stop calling that poor bunny ‘kangaroo’. What would you say if someone called you ‘sunshine’ or something like that? And you, mister big bunny, put those boomerangs away. Violence is never the answer. Plus it hurts to be hit with them,’ I scolded the two. The bunny got an apologetic look on his face and followed my orders. The other guy, though, just laughed.
‘My name is Jack, miss,’ he said, pretending to have manners. ‘And aren’t we having fun?’ I raised an eyebrow.
‘No, we’re not,’ I stated, then turned around, this time watching my feet, to not step on one of the eggs.
The bunny shot Jack a victorious look. Wait a minute… Jack? And Frost? I swirled back around.
‘Are you the one who kept Jamie from his sleep earlier?’ I asked him.
‘I’m Jack Frost, the one and only!’ he said, a proud look on his face.
‘Well then, Jack Frost, lead me the way back to his house, because I need to be there for him and Jamie,’ I demanded.
‘I would love to, but I’m sorry to tell you that’s not possible,’ he answered. He didn’t look sorry at all. Instead he had that smirk of his on his face again.
‘I hate to say this, but Jack’s right,’ the bunny said. I shot him an unbelievably look. What were they talking about?!
They exchanged a meaningful look. What is going on?!
‘I sorry to do this, but we have no choice,’ the bunny said. Before I could figure out what he was talking about, my vision turned black again.
*POV Bunnymund*
I really was sorry for knocking the girl out again. Especially since she stood up for me against Jack’s comments. But I couldn’t let her wander through the warren at her own and I had no time to take her back. The northern lights lit up the sky, which meant there is trouble at the pole. The events started to look awfully similar to the ones of two years ago, when Jack became a guardian. I hoped North had a good reason for calling me away from my eggs the night before Easter again.
I turned to ask Jack what to do with the girl, but of course he had left already. I opened my mouth to tell the warrior eggs to look after her, but that way the defence of the warren would weaken. Hmmm, what should I do?! Not knowing what else to do, I took her with me. It was not going to be easy to explain this to the other guardians, especially since Frost would probably already have told them his version of events. This was not going to be good for my reputation…
Running through the tunnels, I wondered what could be the cause of the trouble. I couldn’t think of anything, but I seriously doubted that Jack had gotten North to call us all. He wouldn’t do that the night before Easter, right? But then again, Frost could be pretty persuasive and North did like the boy a lot. I decided to pay North back the night before Christmas if this was all a joke. I increased my speed a little more. The weight of the girl was slowing me down. I would be surprised if Jack wouldn’t use the opportunity to use that against me. This was going to be such a nice meeting…
*POV Jack*
I went to Jamie’s house again. I had no idea how Bunny would handle the situation with Anna, but she had been pretty worried, and I decided to let Jamie know he and Sophie would have to take care of themselves for a while. It was not like they weren’t going to see Anna anymore, she would just take a little while longer to come back from her walk.
I wondered how she’d ended up in the warren. She was probably seventeen years old. Girls of that age usually don’t believe in the guardians anymore. The only other possibility I could come up with, was that Bunny had been very incautious. And that was not very likely to happen…
