"Katie?" Sirius called walking up the stairs.

"In here!" I yelled from the library.

Sirius peeked his head in the room, "Can we talk?"

My stomach churned, uh oh, "Ye-yeah sure,"

Sirius must have noticed my worried expression "No don't worry, it's nothing bad...I don't think".

I sighed in relief and motioned for him to sit in one of the arm chairs next to me. He walked over and sat.

"I-erm-I was curious...Katie you've never mentioned your father, is he...still alive?" Sirius asked fumbling with his hands. My stomach dropped, I was hoping this would never arise in any of our conversations, who was I kidding? Of course it would one day.

"Since we're getting married in a couple of months, I was just wondering who is to walk you down the aisle?" He added.

I closed the book I was reading and directed my body to him, "I don't want you to judge me, or my family. There were many mistakes made".

"Of course not, I would never judge you!" Sirius promised reaching out to hold my hand and giving it a slight squeeze.

I smiled, slightly reassured, "Ok, my mother and father had some sort of love, I'm not sure if you could call it true love, but there was something. My father was a bully, most people wouldn't stand up to him. I think in a way he was troubled, he couldn't form strong bonds with anybody because of his lack of trust, he didn't feel loved. Anyway, he met my mother one day; she was kind to everyone, especially him. She changed a bit of him, for the better. They were both young at the time, in their early 20s, I think. My mother had gone to Beauxbatons-"

"I thought she was in Ravenclaw?" Sirius interrupted.

"You'll find out soon". I replied solemnly. "Anyway, they had never met before. She knew barely knew anything about him, he knew barely anything about her. They rushed things; they thought they did have true love.

My mother and him married about 4 months after they met and I was conceived 2 months after that. However, it was then, when my mother fell pregnant, my father's darker personality overpowered him. He felt he would be vulnerable with a child. So he left leaving her broken-hearted and a single mother to raise a baby on her own. She had no money. No family. No friends. So the day I was born my mother left me at an adopting agency and left. A week later it was confirmed she took her own life".

Sirius noticed how upset I was becoming so he moved next to me, "You don't have to continue". He whispered gently.

I shook my head, "It's almost over".

Sirius stroked my hair.

"I was adopted soon after, to the woman you knew to be my mother, the Ravenclaw, and grew up not knowing any of this till the day before I went to Hogwarts".

"Love, I am so sorry," He kissed my shoulder.

"You shouldn't be, it isn't your fault".

Sirius sighed, "Can I ask you one more question?"

I nodded.

"Who was your father?"

In a way, I think Sirius knew the answer. The way he was biting his lip and squeezing my hand a little too tightly. I took a deep breath and replied,

"Lord Voldemort".
