"The Christmas Ball will take place on Christmas Eve. Students who are 4th years and under are not allowed." Professor McGonagall announced in the Gryffindor Common room on December 15th.
"I expect you all to wear something...appropriate." She added.
Most of the girls broke out in giggles once she left, whereas I just groaned.
"What's wrong Katie?" Lily asked.
I sighed, "I hate dancing."
James laughed, I threw a pillow at his face.
"Oh come on, if your with me it won't be so bad." Sirius grinned.
I punched him on the shoulder playfully, "Yeah right."
He laughed.
Remus, James, Lily, Sirius and I were sitting in the Common Room by the fire. Peter was missing...yet again.
Lily and James were settled in the loveseat, while Remus sat in an arm chair.
Sirius was sitting in an armchair too and I sat on his lap, snuggling into his chest.
"Katie, we'll have to go dress shopping in Hogsmeade this weekend!" Lily exclaimed.
I laughed and nodded, "Yeah."
"Yeah lets!" Sirius chimed.
Lily laughed, "Yea-no."
Sirius pouted, "PA-lease!"
"Nope. Lily and I are going to have a girl's day only!" I teased.
Sirius poked his tongue out.
I yawned, "I think I'm going to go to bed now."
Lily nodded, "I'll be up in a minute."
"Ok. Goodnight everyone." I said waving goodbye to the others.
I leaned forwards and kissed Sirius.
"Get a room!" James whined.
I stuck the finger up at him and skipped up to the girl's dorms.
~O~O~O~
"I hate my red hair. It limits the colour of dress I can choose from." Lily complained as we searched for ball dresses.
"What about green. It would match your eyes too." I suggested running my fingers through a silky purple dress.
Lily nodded in agreement, "Yeah it would, but there are not many green dresses here."
"How come you finally said yes to James?" I asked changing the subject.
Lily blushed but shrugged, "I guess, I guess I've always sort of liked him, I was just waiting for his big head to deflate first."
I laughed, "I know what you mean."
She smiled.
"I'm going to go try on these," I said showing her three dresses I had chosen.
She nodded, "Show me after you try on each."
"Ok." I walked into the change rooms and changed into the first.
It was a long red strapless gown that had frilly roses at the top. Overall, it didn't suit me.
I walked out to show Lily and she shrugged, "Its ok, but try on the others first." I walked back into the change rooms and dressed in the second one.
It was a long strapless dress again. It had a silver top and black bottom. It was tight around my curves and flows around my legs. I grimaced, this is not my style.
I walked out to show Lily and she shook her head, "Next."
"Agreed!" I laughed and hurried back into the change rooms to try on the last dress.
It was a royal blue dress, with diamontes that glittered down the front and back. The fabric clung nicely to my top half and flowed elegantly to my ankles.
"Lily!" I called. She popped her head around the corner and clapped her hands.
"Perfect!" She giggled.
I grinned and quickly changed back into my sweater and jeans. I turned to Lily, "Have you found a dress?"
She shook her head, "I think I'll write to my parents, they wanted to find me a dress originally. Luckily they have good taste."
I smiled and went to pay for my dress.
~O~O~O~
"So, what are you going to be wearing?" Sirius asked as Lily and I flopped down on the couch in front of the warm, toasty fire.
"It's for me to know and you to find out." I laughed.
"Just one little hint?" Sirius begged.
"Ok fine."
Sirius's eyes lit up.
"It's a dress." I smirked triumphantly as he scowled.
"Very funny."
I laughed, "Yes, I thought so too."
"So did you find a dress Lily?" James asked stroking her hair.
Lily shook her head, "Not yet. I think I'm going to ask my parents to help."
Remus walked forwards into the room, "I have news." He said sitting down.
We turned to him.
"Apparition license tests tomorrow in the Great Hall. For those who are Seventeen." He said.
I grinned, "Yes! I can't wait to get my apparition license." I celebrated.
~O~O~O~
"Katie Axel?" Mr Piers read from his scroll.
My breathing became heavier.
"You're going to pass!" Lily assured shaking my shoulders.
I nodded quickly.
"Good Luck Katie." Sirius pulled me into a hug and kissed my forehead.
"Thanks." I replied pulling him closer.
"Miss Axel?"
I inhaled sharply and turned towards the door.
Inside the Great Hall, all the house table and chairs had gone and were replaced by hoop and a line.
"It'll be just like practice Miss Axel, now I would like you to stand at this line and apparate into the hoop. Remember the three 'Ds'; Destination, Determination and Deliberation. You may begin when you're ready."
I gulped and nodded. I walked over to the line which looked as though it has been drawn on by white chalk. I grasped my wand and focused on the hoop.
Crack
I released my breath and looked down at my feet. I was in the hoop.
"Congratulations Miss Axel, you have passed." The man shook my hand smiling.
My mouth dropped open, "Tha-Thank you sir."
"You may go."
I practically ran out the door. Lily, Sirius, Remus, James and Peter were waiting eagerly.
"So?" Sirius asked.
"I passed!" I grinned excitedly.
"Congratulations Katie!" Sirius exclaimed rushing forwards and kissing me full on the lips.
When we pulled back I smiled.
