It was 2am when I left the library. A lot of the time I wasn't even reading; I was crying. I was walking up to mine and Sirius's bedroom when I realised he didn't want me there. More tears left my eyes and I walked up another flight of stairs. The house was scary at night. It was dark as there were barely any windows, and the floorboards continuously creaked under my feet. I didn't bother to check on Maia in the nursery because I knew she would be in with Sirius.
Sirius. Sirius. Sirius. My mind wouldn't stop bringing him up. It was haunting me. Thoughts rolled around in my head about him not believing or trusting me. Shouldn't partners have faith in each other? At this moment our relationship was turning out just like my parents.
That's it. That's what's happening. This is Voldemort's doing. Of course Sirius would believe me! Why didn't I think of this before? Sirius is under a curse! But why would my father want Sirius and I to fall apart? Unless...
A thought popped into my head. I ran back down the staircase and back into the library where I had left my wand on the couch. I picked it up an apparated to that same dark, dusty, old room.
"Hello again Kathyrn". His high, cold voice greeted me from the corner of the room.
I stormed over to Voldemort, all the fear in me was gone and replaced with adrenaline. I slammed my hands on his desk and looked him right in the eye. "I know what you're trying to do and I'm not going to fall for it". I sneered.
He chuckled evilly, "And what, am I trying to do?"
My upper lip curled and I almost bared my teeth, "You want me to join you, you and your followers. You expect me to come crawling to you after all my friends leave me".
His eyes gleamed, "My, my you are certainly very intelligent! Katie you have power. If you join me we can rule everyone, they will bow at our feet and cower in our very presence! We will be the most powerful, feared wizard and witch of all time!"
I crossed my arms, my anger rising, "Never! I'm not falling for it. As if I would ever turn to your side and kill innocent people! I'd rather die!" I sneered at him.
He chuckled coldly, "Oh I could easily grant that for you". He lifted his wand.
"Ha! Leave me, my family and my friends alone!" I glared but deep down my stomach was lurching; he wouldn't really kill his own daughter...would he? I tightened my grip on my wand, just in case.
He smirked, "And why would I do that Katie?"
"Because I am never going to join you! Haven't I made that clear? Don't you know? Evil never wins". I growled.
He glared at me and flicked his wand. I flinched which caused him to cackle.
"Crucio."
The pain hit me like a thousand knives. I fell to the ground in agony and screamed. I could hear him laughing as he lifted the spell. I lay on the cold floor, breathing heavily.
"Katie, I told you I have power. I can make anyone do anything and feel the worst pain imaginable".
Fear began chorusing through my body, "Never". I whispered.
"Crucio!" He screeched.
The previous torture was nothing like this. This pain made me want to die. I screamed louder and pulled at my hair, but I refused to give in.
"Katie, you're strong, but not strong enough!" He yelled fiercely. "CRUCIO! CRUCIO! CRUCIO!"
My vision was getting blurry as the pain got even more unbearable.
"Join me Katie". He requested once more.
I opened my eyes as the pain was decreasing. What caught my eye was my wand laying a few feet from me, under the desk. I slowly reached for it and gripped it in my hand. I stood up shakily, still keeping my wand hidden.
"Do you never learn?" I hissed.
He raised his wand once more, "Cru-"
"Protego!" I defended and then apparated out of the room before he could curse me again.
~O~O~O~
"Katie!" Remus exclaimed worriedly as he opened his front door. I was standing on the doorstep, drenched from the rain and probably as pale as a sheet of white paper.
"Remus...help me?" I begged. The world began to spin and my vision blurred. Then everything went black.
~O~O~O~
I awoke to the sound of birds chirping and the sun's rays peeking through the window. I sat up slowly taking in my surroundings, which were unfamiliar. There was a lit fireplace in the corner with a red armchair in front of it. There was a desk with scattered newspaper clippings on it by the window and beside it was a bookcase.
"You're awake". Remus greeted from the doorway. I had to confine a gasp which was threatening to escape my lips. Remus looked horrible. He had a black eye, scratches and bruises on his untrimmed face. His clothes were cheap and old and his figure was thin. Far different than the last time I saw him, three months ago.
Remus smiled faintly and walked into the room, carrying a tray, "I brought you some breakfast".
"Thank you Remus...for everything". I said as he placed the tray on my lap. He smiled again in return.
A delicious smell wafted from the plate. He had made a stack of chocolate pancakes with strawberries and ice-cream and there was coffee in the mug. I took a bite.
"Remus! This is amazing!" I exclaimed after I swallowed the pancake.
"Thanks," He replied. After I took a few more bites he frowned.
"Katie, what happened last night? I was so worried! When you turned up you looked like you were close to death!" He pulled the desk chair up to my bed.
I put down the knife and fork and wiped my mouth with the napkin, "Remus, I'm not sure if Sirius has told you anything-"
"He has". Remus interrupted.
I gulped.
"But go on, I'm not taking any sides until I know both stories".
I smiled gratefully and begin again.
"First of all I think I should tell you that Voldemort is my father, but I have no allegiance with him what-so-ever".
Remus's eyes widened but he then nods for me to continue. So I do. And I manage to tell him everything despite what Voldemort said in my dream.
~O~O~O~
"So Sirius doesn't believe you?" Remus asked after I finished my explanation.
I shook my head, "Nor is he allowing me to see Maia".
Remus frowned, "Even after you told him all that?"
"I couldn't tell him all that, in my dream I think Voldemort put a jinx on me, I don't know, I was able to hint to Auror Alastor Moody and he got it but I wasn't able to say anything to Sirius".
Remus bit his lip, deep in thought, "I think I know that spell. I can look up the counter-curse and try it, but I presume it's quite powerful magic".
"Oh please do Remus!" I begged.
He nodded, "I'll see what I can do. But for now you need to rest".
I smiled and handed him the empty tray, "Thanks".
