*Phone ringing*
Ugh.
*Phone ringing*
Shut up!
*Phone ringing*
"Hello?" I answer groggily. I don't even know why I answered the phone. I prefer sleep. Especially at... 2 o'clock in the morning!! Damn, this better be a good reason to call me...
"S-Summer?" It's Lauren's mum. Why is she calling me so early? Right, time zones.
"Yeah, what's wrong?" I am suddenly more awake now I realise she is crying, I sit up so I am more alert.
"I c-called Lauren b-but her phone was off."
"Yeah, it ran out of charge and she can't find the charger at the moment." I'm trying to just stay calm, but I fear the worst.
"C-Can you put her o-on the phone, please?"
"Yes, of course!" I immediately leap out of bed and bang on Lauren's door. I don't even care who I wake up at this point; I just need Lauren on the phone.
The door opens to reveal a confused and tired Lauren in ducky pyjamas.
"Summer? What do you want? It's so early." Lauren leans her head against the doorframe as her eyes start to drift closed again.
"It your Mum. She wants to talk to you." I have only just realised how frantic and frazzled I am.
Lauren's eyes bulged out of her head. She reefed the phone out of my hand and put it to her ear. "Mum? What's wrong?"
At this point my dad emerges from his room with some wicked bedhead. "Sum? What's happening?" My dad whispers quietly to me.
I just mouth back an, 'I don't know' and add a shrug.
"Okay. I'll be on the first flight out." Lauren's voice wavers as she hangs up the phone.
"Lauren; what's going on?" My own voice is starting to catch.
"Dad was in a car accident. They don't know if he'll make it. I need to go home. I'm sorry." A silent tear drips down Lauren's cheek as she speaks. I just nod in response and hold her close. I can't even imagine what she must be going through right now.
"I'll help you pack." I can feel a lump in my throat. Lauren and her parents are like my second family. I don't know what I would do without them.

"I'll miss you Lauren. I know that everything will be just fine, you just have to stay positive." I tried to offer a comforting smile but it came out a bit more forceful than intended.
Lauren just nods and gives me one last hug before saying goodbye to my dad. Although, she was just going to give him a handshake, but my dad had other ideas; he pulled her into a big bear hug. My dad is a hugger. However, Lauren and I's dads are very similar and I think the warm embrace of mine made her miss hers even more. The tears streamed heavily down her cheeks once more, seeing this sight provoked the water that was pooling in my own eyes to spill out.
Lauren waved a sad goodbye as she walked over to the desk to have her ticket scanned and began to walk onto the plane.
I just sat. I just sat on the floor. Right there in the terminal, and just cried. My 'second father' is in hospital and might not make it, one of my best friends is upset and I can't help her or make her happy, I am distraught.
How could this happen? Lauren dad is the best driver I have ever seen. I don't even want to think about it. As soon as I found out what happened I immediately felt my heart shatter, I heard it too. It was loud.
