Summer’s POV

Where the hell am I? Everything is just white. Is this even a room? What happened? Ah shit; am I dead? That would really suck.

My surroundings start to get darker and darker, till it feels like I’m in a tunnel.

“Summer.” A hoarse, creepy voice echoes all around me. It chills me to the bone.

“Hello? Is anyone there?” I rub my hands up and down the length of my arms, trying to ward of the impending goose bumps.

“Walk towards the light.” The voice sounds again, making me physically shiver from the iciness in the tone.

“Aren’t you supposed to stay away from the light? If you walk towards it you die don’t you?”

“JUST WALK!” The voice booms.

“No. If I want to live I am going to walk the other way. I’ll see you later, this is just a dream; I am in control and you can’t do anything.” I storm in the complete opposite direction. No stupid, creepy voice is going to tell me what to do.

“No.” I hear the voice trying to refute my protests.

I feel a chilling cold wrap around my ankle, almost as if it were a hand. It rips my leg out from under me, making me fall straight forward, I would’ve hit my face on the ground if I didn’t use my hands to catch myself. I let out a blood-curdling scream, but of course no one heard me.

The iciness around my ankle started to pull me towards the light. I struggle against it and try to crawl away; it just keeps pulling and pulling. I keep screaming out protests but all of them go unanswered. I am pulled into the light and am engulfed in its brightness.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

The monotonous beeping sound was right beside my head, causing the pain in my head to worsen.

“Why won’t she open her eyes? She squeezed my hand; I thought she could hear us.” A muffled voice sounded from my left.

“I know, maybe her muscles were just contracting and they were just a coincidence to happen after we asked.” Another muffled voice sounded from my right. They both sounded familiar, although slightly different; they were pained and saddened.

I tried to open my eyes but they felt like they were being weighed down by bags of concrete; and they more I tried, the tireder I became. I use the very last bit of strength I have, and my eyes manage to flutter open.

Everything is fuzzy, but it gets clearer and clearer the more I look around. I see Keaton on the left holding my hand with his head on the bed; Drew was next to him in a chair with his head in his hands. I gently roll my head, careful not to jostle it too much because I still have a massive headache, and I see my dad pacing up and down the length of the right side of my bed.

“Dad,” he immediately stops pacing and everyone in the room has their eyes peeled on me.

“Summer!” Keaton’s eyes shine bright as he envelopes me in a bone-crushing hug. I feel pain all over as the hug continues, I wince and Keaton lets go in a heartbeat. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to--“

“Keaton, I’m fine,” I say as I try to soothe him, “just a little fragile.”  Try to smile to show that I mean it, but it comes out more forced and looks like a grimace.

“Hey, honey, how are you feeling?” My dad kneels down next to me and sweeps some fallen hair out of my face.

“Alright, I guess, a little sore. Can I have some water?” My tongue feels like sandpaper and it’s hard to swallow.

“Yes, of course.” My dad nods towards Keaton; I turn my head towards him also and I see him already holding a cup of cool water. I give him an appreciative smile before taking the cup, and downing it all in one go; but savouring how good the liquid feels on my dry throat.

“I’m going to go and get the nurse to let her know you’re awake.” My dad plants a tender kiss on my forehead and then swiftly leaves the room.

I look over at the boys who are staring back at me very intently. I give them a small smile and stifle a laugh just to break the silence in the room, y’know, other than the really annoying beeping. Look at my boys, they are so sweet. All three of them-- wait. One, two-- where’s three? Where’s Wes?

My eyes go wide like saucers as everything that happened sinks in and I realise why I am here. Wes was in the car with me; we got hit; I’m here, where is he?

Drew can read the panic on my face, “Summer, what’s wrong? What are you thinking about?” He gingerly places his hand on my ankle; I can already feel the warmth of his hand through the hospital blanket.

“Where’s Wesley?” My throat catches, and tears start brimming at the edges of my eyes as I fear the worst.

“Hey, hey, shh. He’s fine. I’m pretty sure he’s still asleep next door. You can see him later; we just need to make sure you’re okay first.” Keaton gently starts to stroke the length on my hair in an attempt to soothe me. I can’t think of anything except for how badly Wes may be injured.

In the midst of my thoughts, my dad walks back in with a nurse and she comes over with a warm smile. “Hi Summer, I’m Katie. I’m just going to check your vitals and then I will be out of your way. Do you need anything? Food, something to drink, do you have any questions?”

“Can you give me any information about the other person in the car with me? How is he?”

She stops what she’s doing so her sole attention is on me, “Mr Stromberg is doing fine; not awake yet but he should be. I’m very surprise that you are awake before him; your body went into shock and shut down. You stopped breathing and had to be rushed to the ER. They managed to get your heart pumping before you sustained severe brain injuries from lack of oxygen.”

Wow, that was something I didn’t know. “What kind of injuries did Wes—Mr Stromberg and I get?” I want to know how bad he got hurt.

“You had a window shatter and one of the shards went into your cheek; as the front panelling of the car crushed, it penetrated your leg causing a lot of blood loss. Mr Stromberg had standard glass injuries from the crash but nothing too major, but he did sustain a stomach wound. The steering wheel snapped in half and punctured him, luckily missing vital organs.” Holy shit. What hit us? What did we hit?

“What were we hit by?”

“You were actually hit by 3 vehicles I’m afraid. It was quite a major crash. I’m not entirely sure what happened but I think you were going through an intersection when a truck ran a red light. It ploughed into you, pushing you into the car waiting on the right, and a car coming from the front was on their phone, didn’t see the crash and ran into the front of you.” How the fuck did we even survive?

“Uh, thank you.” Katie nods her head and shuffles out of the room leave the 4 four of us lone again.

“Do you guys think you would be able to help me get up and see Wes?” Please say yes, please say yes.

“I guess; if you really want to sweetie. The nurse didn’t say anything about you not being able to get up and move around. Plus, it might be good to get some proper circulation in your legs going.” My dad agrees and starts to help me to sit up.

Ta Da! No, she didn't die. Duh! But yeah, hoping to get another chapter out later today but we'll see what happens.
