Summer's POV
My eyes stir open and I am greeted by the sight of hospital walls once more... I don't think I am ever gonna get used to that.
I reach my right hand up to my face and, gently, rub the sleep out of my eyes; narrowly missing the stiches in my cheek.
"Good morning, Sleepy Head." I hear my dad's voice call.
I turn and see him sit up in a very uncomfortable hospital chair, he winces as his spine straightens.
"Dad, did you spend the night in the chair? That's not good for your back." I scolded. "You should've gone home and had a proper sleep. I would've been fine."
"But you see, I wouldn't been able to sleep properly knowing you were here alone anyway." My father retorted. I just rolled my eyes.
My stomach growled. God, I am so hungry. I don't remember the last time I ate.
My dad laughed at my stomach's yell for attention, "I'll go get the nurse and tell her you are awake and she should bring in some food for you. I'll get food as well cause I know that the food she brings won't be very appetising." He leans over and gives me a tender forehead kiss and swiftly makes his way out of the room, after giving me a glance over his shoulder to check me over once more before he leaves.
I slowly reach both my arms over my head, careful not to tug the IV out of the back of my hand, and stretch out my back. I hear a few cracks and feel some stretching, but man it feels good.
"AYE!!" I heard two voices riot as two friendly faces come bounding through the door.
"Haha! Hey Drew; Keaters." I give the boys a great big toothy smile. They are so full of life you can't help but smile when you see them.
"How are you bug-a-lug?" Drew asks while tousling up my hair.
"I was fine before you messed up my perfectly styled hair." I said jokingly and flicked a piece of hair over my shoulder like I was a supermodel. "How's Wes?"
"Still nothing... They are starting to feed him through a tube. It's pretty gnarly." Keaton makes a disgusted face at the thought of it; it makes me cringe slightly too.
"Can you lovely boys help me stand up? I really need to stretch out my legs."
Both the boys scurry over and help lift me up. Oh god, so much pain. Mainly my leg; I'll probably need crutches for a few months after I get out of here.
Once both of my feet are planted on the ground, I can feel the chill of the tiles against my skin, sending small shivers up my spine.
"Do you wanna try and walk on your own or do you want us to still help you?" Drew looks at me for clarification and to see if I'm okay.
"I wanna try on my own."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm sure." I say with more determination than I am feeling.
Okay. I can do this. The boys slowly release my arms but stay close by to make sure I don't hurt myself. I got this. Just a couple of steps. I lift up my right leg, my injured one, and man it hurts. I put it back down to try and take a step but the pain is too much and I can't support myself. My leg gives way and I fall; the boys catch me before have time to hit the floor.
"Alright, that's enough for today. Let's get you back into bed." Keaton folds back the sheet so I have a spot to sit, and I am gingerly set back on my bed.
"Hey Summer! How are you feeling?" A peppy Nurse Katie walks in with my dad in tow.
"Fine, a little sore; but better than yesterday. I don't have such a pounding in my head."
