I run out of the school. Maria, Nowah and Nillia are nowhere to be seen.
"Great," I mutter. An ear piecing scream fills the air.
I follow the sound deep into the forest. I hear the scream again, this time louder, I'm definitely closer.
I peer through a cluster of trees and see the most horrific thing.
Nowah, lying on the floor, well part of him. From the waist down Nowah is some sort of fury animal.
Whimpering next to him, is a black dog, the size of a truck.
Across from them, is a mutated animalie thing. Well, that's the best way to describe it. It had the body of a buffalo but his head was a wild boar. It's an odd combination if you ask me.
It's getting ready to charge at Nowah again.
The dog makes a useless attempt to defend Nowah.
I have to help.
Grabbing a fallen branch, I sprinkle spoke powder on it. Spoke powder is a way to make your weapon sharper and spikier.
Whether it works on mutated animals, I'm about to find out.
I step out from behind the cluster of trees, holding the branch like a club.
"Hey you," I call to the beast.
It tilts its head towards me, changing its path towards me. It comes full speed, straight towards me.
I wait,
One,
Two,
Three,
I leap to my left, the monster charges past me.
It turns to me, confused as to why I'm not squashed on the ground.
The giant dog lets out a howl, then rests his head on Nowah's chest.
I need to get Nowah some medicine, now.
Not waiting for the monster to charge, I run right up to it, branch raised.
My branch hits his head with force, his already ugly face is now squashed at the front.
It makes an eerie noise, probably noticing that his head size has reduced.
It charges at me again, this time I side step and hit it on the side.
Hopefully it was a monster and not a mixed species cow, from the local farm.
Maybe I had used to much spoke powder because my branch has sent it rolling down the hill.
I stare at it, waiting for it to move, as it lies in a clump at the bottom of the hill.
"Catoblepas," Nowah groans. I walk over to him and check his wounds.
I could tell his leg was damaged but nothing that medicine couldn't fix....hopefully.
"Catoblepas," he murmurs again.
"Wait!" I gasp, "That wasn't your pet, was it?"
"What pet," Nowah slurs, "Mrs O'Leary didn't jump on the fire truck again right?"
"Uh, I don't think so," Who was Mrs O'Leary?
"Need to get to Camp, need to get to Camp," Nowah keeps chanting.
"Nowah, what Camp?" I gently ask.
"Camp Half-Blood, found Maria, need to get to Camp," he is making no sense.
"Maria Jackson, needs to find her parents, find Percy Jackson, find Annabeth Chase," he keeps mumbling on.
"Can you walk yet?" I ask.
His eyes flutter open.
"Sarah? Is that you?" he looked up at me.
"Yeah, how do you feel?" I say gently.
"Why'd you dye your hair?"
I almost laugh, that was the last thing I had expected him to say.
"Sure," I crack a smile, "So how do you feel? Can you walk?"
"Help me up," he instructs.
I place a hand on his back for support. Slowly he sits up, then stands.
"Thank you," Nowah says and hobbles over to the giant dog, leaning on it.
"So where are you going?" I question.
"Ur......shopping!" Nowah seems pleased with himself.
"Like that?" I motion to his fury legs and hooves.
"I meant to say a Halloween party!"
"Right, and there's three people in that giant dog costume," I can't help but smile at his lame excuse.
"Of course, there is no way a dog can be that big," Nowah tries to be confident with his answer but fails.
"How lovely, I'd like to meet them and ask why they didn't get out of their costume to help you?" I raise an eyebrow.
The giant dog, I'm ninety-nine point nine percent sure it's not a costume, barks at me.
"Look at the time! We're going to be late for that Christmas party-"
"-Halloween-"
"And I hear it's going to be awesome this year!" Nowah starts to walk away, the giant dog following him.
"Wait Nowah!" I jog up to him, "Have some of this, it will help with the wounds." That was a lie. I had given him lunar powder with erases memories. If I gave him just the right amount, he would forget about the talk we had.
"If you say so," I sprinkle a tiny amount into his palm, "It's very strong so this is all you need."
I turn on my heels and run into the forest. When I'm confident that I'm hidden, I get my pouch of invisi powder out and use to right amount.
I walk back to where Nowah is. He has a surprised look on his face, indicating that the lunar powder has worked.
The giant dog barks in my direction. I wasn't visible was I?
"Girl, calm down. There's nothing there," Nowah looks right at me, the dog must have a good sense of smell, "Come on Mrs O'Leary, let's go to Camp."
I keep a good distance as I follow them to this Camp of theirs.
