I had been following them for hours. They kept walking on, and on, and on.
I was exhausted, to say the least.
"Malcolm be quiet. Maria what was your prophecy?" the girl with curly brown hair asks
"To find the lost heroes you must go
To the place that was their foe,
Then turned friend against the ground below
Gods are in war over the demigod's mistake
And Medusa will rise if you let her wake," Maria recites.
"Gods are in a war over the demigod's mistake. We have to go to Olympus after going to Sally's house," the blonde boy says. They all nod.
"We're almost there, it's just over the hill," the curly brown haired girl says.
Maria groans, "We should've taken a cab. Except we don't have any money."
"Yes, we do," Maria's companions say together.
The blonde boy reaches into his pocket and pulls out what looks like pieces of gold.
"These are Golden drachma," he says, "The money of the gods. Take some," he gives some to Maria, "You never know when you need them."
"Thanks," Maria says, closing her hand and placing them in her backpack.
"There's the apartment block," the curly brown haired girl says, pointing at a run down building. It seemed like these had been here for awhile.
What caught my attention was a few levels up, flowering over a window sill, were hundreds of silver flowers. I had never seen anything so beautiful in my life. Maria clutches her necklace suddenly.
"Are you ok Maria?" the curly brown haired girl asks.
"Yeah, it's just.......," Maria pauses, "I'm fine. Let's go."
I follow them up to the building.
They open the door and head up the stairs, I slip in before the door closes, not wanting in to be obvious something was following them.
The curly brown haired girl stopped before a door and knocked.
The blonde boy puts a hand on Maria's shoulder.
A woman steps out from the behind the door.
"Sally, it's nice to meet again. We were wondering if we could come in," the curly brown haired girl says.
"Of course dear. How are you, Malcolm? Any news about Percy for me?"
"No ma'am. That's what we can to talk to you about," the blonde boy replies.
Sally nods with a sad smile, "He hasn't contacted me for a while, I'm terribly worried. And who might you be dear?" her gaze settles on Maria.
"This is Maria Jackson," the curly brown haired girl says, "Your grandchild."
Sally's eyes go wide, "Really?"
Maria nods, her eyes welling with tears.
The blonde boy drops his hand from Maria's shoulder as Sally closes her in a hug.
"Darling, who don't know how long I've waited to meet you," she whispers in Maria's ear.
Maria closed her eyes.
"Me too. You're the first family member I've meet," she says.
Sally pulls away from the hug and smiles brightly.
"If only your Percy and Annabeth were allowed to keep you. I would have seen the amazing journey of you turning into this beautiful young lady."
Maria shakes her head, "Why weren't they allowed to keep me?"
"If it was my place to tell I would. I think it's something your mother would like to tell you," Sally looks down at the floor, "But what are we talking gloomily for? I've got a granddaughter and I might be able to help you find Percy. Come in."
They all step inside of a small apartment, the smell of freshly baked cookies filling the room.
Sally enters the lounge room, a bowl of cookies in her hand. The strange thing was, the cookies were blue.
"These were your father's favorites, Maria," Sally says, placing the bowl on the small coffee table centred in the middle of the room.
The three teens sit on the couch, munching away on cookies. I'm suddenly really hungry.
"These are really good!" Maria says, grabbing another one.
"Thank you, dear. Now, what do you want to know?" Sally asks.
"Maria has been given a quest, hopefully, which will lead us to find our parents," the curly brown haired girl says, also taking a cookie.
"And we need to know when you last saw Percy or any of the seven," the blonde boy finishes.
"Let me think," Sally closes her eyes and the room of silence is interrupted by the curly brown haired girl eating a cookie.
"Fifteen years at least," Sally finally says, "It was after you were born, Maria," she opens her eyes, looking at Maria, "I remember his word like it was yesterday, 'I'll be back Mum. Just need to go do demigod stuff. I'll light up the Empire State Building again when I'll back in America.' Then, he just left and never returned. It's not like Percy, we've always been very close."
I could almost see the gears in Maria's head turning as she thought.
"Thank you," she finally said, getting up, "I'll visit again with mum and dad. And that's a promise."
"Thank you for your time, Sally," the blonde boy shakes Sally's hand before heading out the door, following.
"Stay safe Maria," Sally pulls her into another hug.
"I will, it's about time we have a stable family," Maria pulls away and walks out the door.
I stay there looking at Sally.
I was about to get up when she spoke, "Poseidon, where could our son be?"
She sighs and walks into the kitchen.
I quietly open the door and walk down the stairs. I exit the building to look for the three teens but they're nowhere to be seen.
Great, now I've lost them!
