Chapter One
Kyler's POV
I was flipping through all the files of the werewolves in our pack. Call me creepy but I'm just doing my job. That 'job' was to learn about all the werewolves in our relatively small pack of less than a hundred wolves. Why? Because I was their future Alpha. Something was obviously not right if the Alpha didn't know anything about his own pack.
"Kyler! Come down here!" someone screeched from downstairs. Mother. I sighed and placed all the files into a pile before sprinting down to her. In the kitchen stood my mother. A tall and thin woman with strawberry blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. She looked really young, which in some cases was a bad thing. When your mother gets mistaken for your older sister or worse- your girlfriend. It was extremely awkward.
"Your father and I are heading off to North Carolina for the weekend, to do some werewolf business in the area," I wrinkled my nose at that as she glared at me and hit me with a wet kitchen rag. "Oh shush! I meant we're going to attend a negotiation of territories and sort out some boundaries, Kyler!"
"Okay chill woman!" I yelped as she whipped my arm once again. The future Alpha couldn't handle his mother smacking him with a dirty rag. How degrading. "So anyway, you are to assist Harvey and look after the pack in our absence okay?" she looked me in the eye and I nodded. "Got it."
Harvey was our pack's Gamma. Otherwise known as the third in command. He was about twenty-two, mateless and overall a very funny man to be around. He was like an elder brother to me, maybe even a best friend, but unfortunately that role was currently taken by the abusive b-word of a Beta-but-not-really, Alix. Have I told you the story of how she managed to break my left arm in third grade? Yeah, it was embarrassing.
My mother patted me on the head, making me growl in annoyance, and strutted out of the kitchen. Some mother. I made my way to the fridge before grabbing a pop and slipping out of the house to find some people to hang around. Kind of like an annoying parasite. Or an adorable puppy. I would like to think of myself as neither.
"Yo Kyle! My man!" something rammed into my side, sending me flying against the wall. "Ugh Gabe, how many times do I have to tell you not to do that!" I growled at the curly haired boy who wasn't really a boy anymore because of all the muscle he had put on. Gabe grinned at me and slung an arm around my shoulders. "Rick, Kels, Alix and I were going out to the Diner to get some grub... wanna join us, Oh mighty Alpha!" he exaggerated the last part which made me elbow him in the ribs. "Yeah, let's go shall we?" I smirked at a bent over Gabe still in pain.

"-And I was like baby, baby, baby, ohh!" I wanted to kill myself. Kelsey's singing sounded like a beached whale high on some kind of plant. Rick grinned and flipped open the roof of his silver convertible, effectively causing even more chaos and some parking tickets to fly out of the car. If you ever wanted to know what the life of a teenage werewolf was, well here it was, all in a nutshell.
"Jesus, Rick turn that horrible music off!" I yelled through the noise. Frickin' Rick who just had to buy that Justin Bieber CD. "Stop being such a partypooper, Kyle! Enjoy life! Whoo!" Gabe shrieked and I shot a look at Alix who grinned and shrugged back. Gabe was known to be one who just simply did not give a shit about anything in particular. In other words he was a bit of a player amongst the ladies. It was disgusting how he would just go around flaunting his werewolf strength and good looks to toy with the girls in our school before dropping them like a hot potato.
Sometimes he didn't even offer them any sex. That sick, sick puppy. Kelsey, known as Kels amongst the pack, was your typical pretty girl. She definitely had the looks and many men swooned over her, but let's just say she's not the brightest crayon in the pack. However, she had a lovable personality and basically she was more of a people's person. Rick was her twin brother. He was packed with muscles, also scoring lots of ladies unintentionally and had a easy going character. Unless he was drunk. Nothing ever goes smoothly when you're under the influence.
Next came Alix, my best friend since birth and my most trusted friend. She was born into the Beta bloodline but sadly, she already had an elder brother that would become my Beta in the future. Alix was a quiet person by nature. A peacemaker. Very down to earth. But that didn't mean she had no violent intent when it came to us. She could kick your butt then find ways to apologise and somehow manipulate you to think that you started the whole fight.
A neat trick if you ask me.
Then there was me, Kyler Henry Parks. The only child of Elona Parks and Ronaldo Parks. People have told me that they looked forward to my leadership given that I was a lot more approachable than my father and so far the only thing standing in between that position and I, was this issue of having a mate.
"Well Kyler what's so bad about a mate?" you might ask. Did I ever mention that I was gay?
